Golden Dragonfly is a tier nine, and does nearly twice the base damage of whirling sword. When enhanced, GD does a BI of 12.49 compared to 7.1 of whirling sword.
And if they where even cons, the damage would be higher still. But in general, Broadsword has more damaging attacks, when compared to moves of an even tier.
EDIT: forgot to add, golden dragonfly crits a LOT more than whirling sword.

Golden Dragonfly is NOT a PBAoE, it's a narrow cone just like Headsplitter.
In fact, it's the Katana version of Headsplitter with slightly faster animation and recharge, lower end cost and damage.

Oh. My bad. Still, my headsplitter diddnt do that much damage. It did uh, 300-odd, also 3-slotted damage.

Do go ahead and make a Katana Scrapper and try Golden Dragonfly against even level mobs when you hit 32.
You will not be able to deal 432 damage with GD to even level mobs at 32 without damage buffs of some sort or heavy resistance debuffing of the mob. GD just doesn't deal that kind of damage.
Most likely it was against a very low level mob (level 1 or 2) or he had buffs already that you didn't see.
Charged Bolts (minor damage), 3 slotted for damage, does some 385 damage at level 33... When used against a level 7 mob that is weak to energy. Big numbers are easy to produce for a high level character.

Broadsword damage does more damage then katana..and not just a bit...katana has quicker recharge and smaller end costs in return...but since animations are working while other attacks are recharging the dps from broadsword is higher then katana...the cone stuff has been told already:P..and 432?...I'm happy if I reach 250 without build up at lvl 38 *shrug*
Katana and broadsword have the same DPS iirc, broadsword has higher burst damage.
Katana should be able to get a higher damage Build Up cycle if paired with Hasten. That way you can fit in 2 GD during BU while Broadsword is limited to 2 Disembowel. It should result in slightly higher damage.
If an attack starts executing while BU is active then it will get the bonus even if BU expires before the damage is dealt.
Teamed with a katana/regen with my broadsword/regen for about 30 levels (15-45ish), and can happily say my broadsword definetly out damaged the katana with dps.
432 single damage seem little high for Katana scrapper without buffing or debuffing. Of cause it depense a lot what he was hitting.
I tested one equal level minion (level 50) and I seem to do 280 damage without buffs and with critical thats 2 times more, so 2x280=560 damage.

It has 3 SO damage enhancement sloted (and 2 accuracy). I think 2 damage enhancements are 53's and one is 50's. Not sure, don't remember, I'm in work now, so can't check.
So that would make it ~95% damage buff in total.

Okay, i'm a BS/Inv scrapper (worst type i've ever seen), and my Whirling Sword PBAoE attack does roughly 140 damage against reds at level 44, without build up. Thats with three green Dmg SOs. Then I saw a 32 Katana scrapper do 432 damage with Golden Dragonfly (also PBAoE), no buildup, no buffs.
...What the hell? That was higher than a Nova!
