Glacial Armour Question
Galaxy Quantums and Vamp ranged attacks. Personally I found these were enoguh of a probably when I delayed mine to 24.
BP Spirits and Totems IIRC.
Freak Juicers and Stunners.
Clockwork, whether Praetorian or not.
Cabal.
Carnies?
Malta?
So basically you have:-
DE, Warriors, Tuatha, Red Caps and some praetorian missions where it isn't needed.
It also provides the final 30% of your cold resistance and some of your defence debuff resistance.
However from playing both an Inv nad an Ice the main advantage of an Ice verses Inv is that Ice doesn't care whether what the damage type is so long as it isn't Fire/Toxic or Psi.

I have an ice/ice thats currently without glacial armour, i will get it, when i am somewhat desperate for it i guess, but the icepatch sure does take alot of damage away on its own. Once i am 28 i think ill take it as it could be a good time, highest level of moonfire so yep could be. I also know i'll need it later but i'm going to want other powers asap later too.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Glacial armour is a great power for the mid-late game, it helps when herding freaks, robots, ghosts etc, and stops all your other defences being debuffed so quickly by the many defence debuffs in the later game. Also it makes CoT much less unpleasant. If you dont have it you are taking both the fire and neg attacks that the CoT dish out and you can get in a lot of trouble. With it you only take the fire attacks and can get around that by killing the fire casters first. GA also protects you against Sappers, which is almost worth the price of admission on its own.
I took it early on my ice/ice tank and loved it, but skipped it until 28 on my ice/nrg and didnt miss it too badly. I wouldnt fancy going without it past 30 though.
One drawback of the power is the visual effect, it is yet another layer of ice on your character, its brighter than the other armours and leaves a trail behind you. When all your armours are turned on it can be a bit painful to actually look at your toon. I have taken to wearing an old pair of glasses with a black dot painted in the centre of each lens. That way I can play my ice tanks without searing my retinas.
I have to say, ocular problems aside, I love ice tanks (Not that you asked). They give you so many cool toys to play with, and there is nothing quite like standing in the middle of 20 mobs and hearing complete silence as they all swing wildly at the air around you. Yet even when you are at your most slippery and unhitable, there is always a chance you could get unlucky and it could all go horribly wrong. The frisson created by this tension between power and vulnerability stimulates the parts other tanks cannot reach.

Agreed. I've played squishies ever since I started CoH and I've finally started an Ice Tank. Totally friggin awesome. It's been a bit scary at times, running into mobs and you get a bad patch of luck and get hit a lot, but when it works, it works beautifully. Now that I've finally gotten Hibernate, even some bad luck won't be able to stop me.

That's how I view Hibernate too.
Even when the bad luck happens to be stacked Illusionist Holds, Hibernate is there post break free to get you up and running and stop a team wipe.

I'm thoroughly convinced - Glacial Armour's now going to be my next pick, at 28!
Thanks to all for feedback.
28 seems good, although I always take my shields ASAP cos I'm a little cautious.
Took it at 18, haven't looked back.

I'd been planning to get it in the 20s, as it wasn't until then energy attacks start appearing in any number...but then there was Ice Patch and Energy Absorbtion, good defensive powers in their own right, plus Frost as a 3rd attack/AoE aggro grabber. So it's only at 28 there was finally enough breathing space for it.
Anyyway, reached 28 yesterday evening, got it, and agree that sunglasses really are needed if you're going to run if for any length of time.

I run Perma Rage with my Ice tanker, now that needs sunglasses!
I even had to get a black aura just to tone the whole thing down a bit.

My latest alt, an Ice/Ice tank, has powered up to the late 20s courtesy of double XP, and I'm dithering over some of the primary powers.
As the subject suggests, the one I'm asking about it Glacial Armour (or Armor if you must); this would be used purely for PvE, so the +Energy DEF's the aspect I'm most concerned about - the +Per isn't such a big thing.
The question is, are there enough pure En/NegEn attacks to make the power worth taking? As I understand DEF armour the existing armours' S/L will be what matters for any combined S/L+En attacks - and of course that's already covered.
Any thoughts?
