What are you saying thanks for? They were congratulating Jet on the artwork, and to the best of my knowledge, you're not Green Jet
Anyway. On the other topic, not a lot I can say really. It's happened. There's no way in hell Cryptic would ever reverse that sort fo decision.
So after 17 months of play, Cap USA got hit by the censors. And thats a very painful place to be hit. It sucks for Cap. And it's not a great deal of fun for anyone else with a long standing toon that may suddenly be generic'd if someone comes up with a link to a long dead minor character with a common name but no real costume similarities. (which is the impression I get from the link earlier in this thread)

Agreed, it bites. But I doubt Kin can be held solely responsible for this. To be honest, by posting on the forums under that name, you, Ballbearing, could probably have raised the suspicion of the mods and that could have gotten the ball rolling.
Admittedly it could have been brought with a little more tact with regards to the message brought by him (Kin) in this thread, after all, so much gets lost in the sense on meaning when it comes down to forums.
However, he was then met with more than a little agression, I felt. Raziel wasn't the only one reading a somewhat hidden threat in the message of some people. I am not saying that is what Jet intended. Having met him at one of the cons, he seemed to be a chilled bloke. But a post like that, made in anger over a friend's misfortune can be easily taken as such.
At the end of the day, what I am trying to say, is that it is only a game. So your character got renamed. It <bleep>eth, but it happens. You, however, behind the controls of said character, have not changed. To your friends you will always be the same, and that's why they chose to be your mate. As the saying goes; What's in a name. :-)
Btw, great artwork, Jet. :-)

I didn't say anything about Kin, I was trying to say that the chracter as mentioned in the link posted was what appeared to be a minor, obscure, one shot toon that has played no ongoing part in any comic continuity since, from my reading of the link....
OK, so I wasn't very clear on the point I was trying to make, but that's a side effect of me posting from work

*Slaps forehead* And I should have posted this in response to more generic people, it was meant for quite a few people, and like yours a little mangled, now that I read it back. :s
My apologies for my rubbishness, I don't seem to be as awake as I thought I was.

Not a friends misfortune, his brother's misfortune...
Just to clarify the point...

Ah, I thought it was meant as 'Brother' in the metaphorical sense. My bad. I refer to my previous post and state I should go back to bed!
Edit: It doesn't change what I meant, though. Family or friends, it doesn't make it right to make suggestive remarks like that. Again, I doubt any real harm was meant, but the tone did come across as sinister, and over a namechange, that just doesn't seem right to me.
Again, I can fully understand the feeling of anger and disappointment, I also agree that they have waited a bit long with the actual change, but it is only that, a name change. They didn't wipe the account, they haven't stolen the player's soul, they have not killed him, replaced him with a robot or unleashed a horde of Ninja-Pirate-Kittens on him. ;-)
Easily said, till it happens to you (meaning me, you, anyone )
If it turns out Ironclad is an obscure character and I'm made to change it, I'll be gutted....
I think the name thing can get out of hand at times.
As long as a) the character in no way resembles the registered version and b) the character is obscure enough, I don't see the problem :/

Except that given the amount of time, effort and sheer empathy that people may have invested in a character, then having a name change could well feel like the soul of that character has been ripped out.
People dont refer to anothers scrapper as 'that guy with the Mask with Hair, type 2b in yellow and red, with the skull overlay, and the glossy skintight spandex top and cargo pants, in a fetching Malaise pattern of puce and green'
They're referred to as 'Killemallandletgodsortitout', or whatever. A name change is NOT a superficial alteration to a character, otherwise all your character is is a bag of powers dressed up in whatever costume you care for.
Names are important and I can FULLY understand why people get so wound up by being generic'd.

My comiserations Bro. That must sting a hell of a lot and I know that if that had happened with my first 50 I would be spitting mad. I would also like to say a big thankyou to Kinslayer for bringing an obscure comic book hero into the public forum and no doubt helping my brother lose the name of the toon I have had the honour of teaming with over the last year and a half. If I ever get to meet you in person I would love to thank you further.

Okay, this kind of thing is uncalled for. The character broke the EULA and the name was changed. You have no way of knowing who /petitioned the character or whether one of our GMs came across them in the course of their normal duties. Singling out one person achieves nothing helpful, and threatening them is way out of line.
I'm locking this now, and I don't want to see any more posts like this anywhere on these boards.

Well if i wasn't being sarcastic and was being for real THAT spitting mad over a matter of which ballbearing is mostly at fault for not checking on the toon name in the first place i certainly wouldnt make it public notice or maybe i would even if it only meant spilling a drink over a guy. I personally feel that things could easily be taken out of context as is normally the case with certain people reading into things the wrong way from what i write aye Raz? I've known green since Feb or beginning of March 2005 when green jet was level 13 and i have to say i really do conceive this as humour although words that cant be said on the forums is at most all that would ever be intended to happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye it does happen..easily misunderstood, as one recently was ( sorry about that again hun ) Text loses alot of feeling sumtimes.. and humor/flame/threat/whatever can be easily misjudged.
