A Marvellous First Movie (Comments Appreciated)

A very nice first attempt Miss M

Getting smooth camera pans is a pain, and takes loads of practice, but really improves the finished product.

The action scenes were nicely done (with some cheeky demoediting ) and I felt there could have done with being more of them rather than the flybys.

As transitions go, I find movies that use two (at the most three) types work the best, especially if they are simple - allows the content to shine, rather than the transition.

Good choice of tune, but in my opinion, the best movies match the music and the lyrics closely, for humour, or dramatic effect. Try and think about that as you go along.

Really enjoyed watching it, and look forward to seeing more Marvellous movies and seeing how you develop your style.

Thanks for the feedback Capt.

I know I went a bit transition crazy, but this was realy an experiment to see what the software could do. I pretty much know what I like now and what I dont.

Your right about the camera pans there a swine to do but like you say hopfully with practice they will get smoother.

I also take your point about the flybye. The first one was to open the peice and fit the lyrics of the song "Im so High" but the 2nd one I was considering removing that myself.

I totaly agree with the point yopu make about the movie should match the lyrics.

Whilst this movie does for me , it probably doesnt show to the causal view, theres more kind of personel meaning behind some of the scenes to which is lost to the audience.

Ive already got the couple of idea in the pipeline one of which if i can pull off could be very special and very diffrent indeed.

Thanks again Capt for the positive feedback.

Anytime. I've been working on my first movie for ooh, about 3 months, and I'm still not happy with it

Plus there is an epic movie I'm making to go with one of the Ranger Tales - that one is going to take a helluva long time. But I always enjoy seeing how other people's movies.

Check out trimmers.org and find the Real World video - it is a truly awesome example of how it should be done. Probably the reason my first hasn't seen light is because it isn't as good (horrible perfectionist here!)

Keep up the fantastically creative work in all it's forms.

I like it, very good first video .
The amount of action is alittle low and abit more sync with the music would be nice but still, I like it.

p.s You probably already seen these but at http://maximilia.net/ are some great videos. Especially 'Thank you' is a great example of demoediting.

There's a trick you can use to getting really nice and smooth camera pans without demo editing.

Go to your options and look in the controls section for the turn slider. Drop it right down.

Then go into your keymapping and look for the keys bound to camera left/right. Bind new keys as appropriate.

Once out of options, having saved changes, try your newly learned camera rotate keys and marvel at the smooth pans you can now achieve (speed of pan can obviously be adjusted by the turn slider setting)

Hope that waffle was of some use. I can't remember whether or not there are keys bindable for camera elevation too though
