I must say I'm very doubtful it can work. I just don't see the CoH world and backstory as strong enough to support a roleplaying game on its own.

Of those, I've only read Tales from the Floating Vagabond, but I have seen other roleplaying games that've done great things with a simple idea and barebone world. Paranoia, Bunnies and Burrows, Baron von Munchausen, MWWG, Feng Shui -- but all of those have had something extra -- a particular humour, a particular game style or a particularly strong concept.

I don't see a City of Heroes Tabletop game having something similar. The concept is playing superheroes (and villains) which, as has been shown but earlier attempts, isn't strong enough to carry a game on its own. It's probably not going to be a wacky game or a parody, so I doubt it will be able to coast on humour.

Like the "everything's free"/"technobabble solution du jour" in Star Trek or the "neuralise your way out of trouble" in Men in Black, the CoH world just isn't suited to the kind of conflict and drama that makes for good, solid genre roleplaying.

Hmmm agreed on that but I see Paragon City as just a Sourcebook. I know from fond experience that I'm gonna home rule a lot of what I don't like and it's the little bits in between the rules which I'd like it for.

(Bleugh...too many I's)

Eden has a history of turning pre-made worlds into playable environments. Their Buffy/Angel RPGs are the best exemple of this. Both manage to capture the feel of the original, but do not limit them too much with it. If they can manage this with CoX Tabletop, I'm more than happy (and will be playing a scenario where Villains invide PI, slaughtering lv 12 peacebringers...)

Would must rather play #Aberrant than COH TT, and I tend to enter a killing frenzy at sight of most WW stuff

Look at this way, perhaps they'll include a coherent background and world view in the TT version which we can use to better understand this game

I'd have Vahzilok creating SuperZombies. 28 enhancements later

I saw the quickplay version or whatever it's called that was released a while back, and I don't like the system. Besides, it's pretty easy to emulate those abilities in Mutants and Masterminds.
