The start of something good.

Aeronaut

Posted

Well so far this evening has been exactly as boring as I anticipated. Aeronaut thought as he glanced at the digital display on his left arm. It's been four hours now and no sign of this 'Destined One' or whatever they call themselves... I really don't think the creep will turn up.

"So, do you think the tip was genuine?" Aeronaut asked into his Comm. unit "I think Swat's source has taken us for a ride, get him to 'fess up his name so I can thank the guy personally for keeping me on this stupid assignment. I also don't see why I was given it in the first place, you remember what happened last time I went 30 hours without sleep, I am still paying for the wall and electronic equipment eight months later after all..."

Crossfire giggled to himself, he hated doing the graveyard shift on comm duty usually, long hours with nothing to do except wait for the hourly checkins from all on duty rangers, not what you would call interesting but he was always glad when Kid Hellfire or Aeronaut were on night duty though. Neither of them could shut up for more than five minutes if thier lives depended on it. "Heh heh, yeah as I recall that old lady wanted your hero licence for what you did to her dog. Personally I never liked chihuahuas anyway. I do remember the grilling you got off Doulos..." As soon as he mentioned the name, Crossfire knew his mistake. Aero and Doulos were tight. Changing topic quickly, he continued "Anyway, Swat's source could not give us an accurate time or anything, just that it was going down tonight and an un-named 'Destined One' would be involved. So that means hero level trouble, not something we can leave to the police, they have enough to worry about with purse snatchers"

"That may be true Crossy, but I don't see you sat on this Warehouse roof in the cold night air" Aeronaut Sighed loudly and switched off his Comm. unit. He was just feeling grumpy he knew and it was hardly fair to take it out on Crossfire, he hadn't put him on this crappy assignment after all. I always feel a little out of my depth on these solo runs Aero thought to himself. Unlike some of the others on the roster, I wasn't born with super powers. I was never blessed by some long thought dead god with abilities that dwarfed mortal men and I certainly never drank a bubbling chemical concoction that allowed me to shoot lightning out of my hands or something. Although to be honest the coffee in the rec room did make me think twice this evening. We should not leave making the stuff to the robots, I mean sure they don't complain or anything but boy do they get liberal with the coffee beans. Smiling to himself, Aero switched his Comm. back on "I'm glad it's you on duty Cross, the last time I was on stakeout last week I had Terra on. Nice girl, just don't ask her to explain that whole 'Terradorma Bytennium' thing... talk about scary, and long. I almost gave up and went home early that night"

"I'll be sure to add that to tonights report" Crossfire said smiling. If you leave him to his own train of thought for long enough, Aeronaut will have jumped from one subject to another without ever actually making a point. "How are things with you and that Tanker woman, Limescale?" He asked, knowing full well the answer.

Oh my god. "That's over with, there was no 'click' if you follow me" Aeronaut said.

"Oh really?, you guys seemed pretty into each other last week at Pocket D. Infact I thought we would need a crowbar to seperate the pair of you"

Please shut up. "Yeah well, sometimes first impressions can be the wrong ones. Remember that time in the Hollows when Frozen Rogue attacked Julius the Troll?" Aeronaut asked, trying to change the subject.

"Shame really, I mean it was such a fertile relationship" Crossfire said, trying not to laugh.

The sod knows. "Alright smarty pants, I am not playing this game any more. Yes she just wanted a kid, yes she was from an alternate dimension and yes on her world the males carry the babies to term. Oh and you can tell Scapegoat that is the last time I tell her ANYTHING".

*BOOM*

"What the hell was that?" Crossfire asked Aeronaut, his was the only open channel at the moment.

"I have a situation here, an eight foot tall one with shoulders broader than I care to think about..." Aeronaut replied. Right about now I would really like some of those inborn super powers. My god this guy is huge...

----------------------------------------------------------

Well, where do I start... I have always been different, ever since I can remember.

I was born in Manchester, England and I love to run. I had always been the fastest runner in our street, School and county in every race I took part in. I was yards ahead of everyone else and always felt I could run forever, in fact I never understood why everyone else I new were unable to keep up with me and had to stop running after a while to catch thier breath. Actually right up until my fourteenth birthday I felt different without knowing exactly why, well I guess no more so than every teenager but like everyone else that age, my problems were the centre of my world. I tried talking to my dad about it but he would always get a funny look on his face whenever I started talking to him about how I felt different and would send me to my mother, who would always start talking about how boys and girls are different and a 'curse'. It wasn't until I was eighteen that I knew she was talking about periods. I spent eight bloody years thinking my mother meant my speed and endurance was the 'curse'... That's us Brits for you I guess, never saying what is on our mind and assuming everyone else is thinking the same thing you are. Looking back on it, I can't help but laugh, but at the time I felt that no one understood me and I was helpless to explain myself to those I loved. Especially after what happened at the sports event that year.

If only I had known my parents were trying to shelter me from the stigma of being a mutant, things might have gone quite differently.

I remember the day I discovered my mutation perfectly. It was July the 12th 1990. It was a few days before we all broke up for the Summer Holidays and everyones parents, grandparents and even older brothers/sisters sat on the school field and waited to cheer everyone on in the upcoming races and events. I Remeber that I was up first as the first race was the long distance run and it was always my best race. Everyone in my year was lining up next to me, all hoping to be the first across the line but all knowing that I would win. Or would I? that year there was a new boy who had been close to beating me on all but a couple of occasions and I was going to have to try harder that year than I ever had before. Maybe that is what made it happen? Or maybe, as others have since hypothesised, each mutants full abilities don't 'blossom' until they hit puberty and it was just pure luck that I happened to be running a race in front of 500 people that day. I guess I will never know the truth of it, all I know for sure is that I cleared the mile from the starting line to the School railings in 3.5 seconds and I never did get the trophy.

The couple of days following the race are a blur, all I remember is the despair I felt and the looks on the crowds faces as I walked back to the finish line. The look in my fathers eyes I remember it most of all. Of everything that happened directly following the race I only regret running away from home before I discovered the truth behind that look. I never learned that my parents had always known about my speed, or how the doctors had discoved shortly after I was born that my metabolism was higher than normal for almost a decade. My parents had spent almost a decade after my birth trying to come up with the right way to tell me but finally decided not to, as in all other respects I was a perfectly normal and happy child.

I try not to think that the next few years of my life could have been avoided if I hadn't run away, although at the time it felt like the right thing to do. My 'friends' at school made it perfectly clear to me after the sports event that they didn't want me talking to them and my parents reaction stunned me to tears, the people who I cared for most in the world couldn't wait to get out of the room I was in. Or so it seemed. The minds of kids eh?.

Well as I said, the next few years weren't my finest. I was living on the streets and I was able to survive thanks only to my speed. I was untrained but I soon learned how to negotiate crowds at speed quite nicely and so never got caught by the coppers. For some reason I can't explain I found myself heading south over the next couple of years, i stayed in each city for about six months or so and then felt an inexplicable urge to move on... at the time I exlained it away as a need to leave before the Police caught me but as the months turned to years that seemed less and less likely, I guess I wasn't entirely happy with the path my life was heading in and so I never stayed anywhere long enough for me to feel like I had to live the way I did... foolish I know but I was only a kid. I found myself in London when I was sixteen, when I finally arrived in the Capital I knew enough to keep my special abilities to myself as it saved hassle. The kind of people on the street I always seemd to fall in with weren't the sort to be trusted with something like that. At best I would be sent on everyones 'errands' at worst I would find they went to the police to see if there was some sort of reward for me. I didn't trust anyone and no-one trusted me, I guess that had something to do with me moving around so much too. I may not have known the exact reason I found myself in London at that time, but once there I met the greatest man in the whole world, a man who always saw the good in me even when I gave him no good reason to think it was there. A man who I miss every single day.

His hero handle was 'The Guardsman', I say was because he passed away about five years ago. He was the bravest man I have ever known, the Guardsman had been one of Englands most prominent hero's during world war two and he was actually there with the Dawn Patrol fighting alongside the Freedom Phalanx against the nazi!. He was the savior of man and he even saved me from myself when I was seventeen. I was breaking into a supermarket to get food the first time we met, he appeared out of nowhere behind me and asked what I thought I was doing. Heh heh, I was so surprised I bolted as fast as I could. I can't describe my shock as I turned the corner of the building only to run right into him again. Of course, I didn't know he could teleport at the time. He gave me a look you would expect from a dissapointed father and asked me why I help myself when I can help so many others. Only now do I appreciate what he meant by that, at the time I thought he was barmy. He offered me a place to stay, someplace I could call home and a hot meal. I can't say I followed him willingly, I ran away from him that first time we met and hoped I would never see him again, but I did. Nearly every day for a fortnight. Heh, it turned out he had been following me ever since he caught wind of a high-speed thief working the Dock area and he wanted to make sure I was given a fair chance to prove myself before he turned me over to the authorities. After a couple of weeks of having him thwart my every attempt at thievery, I started to listen to what he had to say. A week or two longer and I decided to take him up on his offer. That man saved me I have no doubt. Not in some religious 'born again' way or anything, I just know that if he hadn't had the patience with me that he showed in those early days I would have become someone very different, I might even have ended up calling those 'Rogue Isles' home...

For two glorious years I was the Guardsmans ward and afterwards I became his partner for the last years of his life. It was the Guardsman who started to call me 'Fleetfoot' and when the press got hold of the name it kind of stuck. The man was seventy two years old when I met him and was so full of life, between us we 'took the fight to the bad guys' as he was so fond of saying and together were responsible for taking down the notorious 'East End Hatters' and several other dockside gangs that plagued the nations capital. The guardsman looked no older than fifty and despite his seventy years he was still in remarkably good condition. He could easily outfight people a third his age although unfortunately his heart was weak, I didn't find this out until after he died but it was starting to become apparent to me that age was starting to catch up to him, he seemed slower in his final years and sometimes he would call it a night after a long patrol. I am very proud to say that the man died as he lived, fighting. Sadly I wasn't there when it happened, I was patrolling a rough neighbourhood on the other side of the city and out of contact that morning. I was told afterwards that he died of a massive heart attack just minutes after arresting a villain known as 'The Truck'. Now the Truck is a giant of a man and that day had taken down three other younger heroes trying to make a name for themselves before the Guardsman finally took him down after a drawn out fight in an industrial park. Even though I am proud to have known him, and even though I know I am not at fault all I can think of when I picture that day in my mind is that I was not there to help the man who saved me... it has been five years and I still cannot shake that thought.

Two years later I found out that the Truck was at large. It isn't all that surprising really, most man-made prisons can't hold super powered criminals. I heard he was in America making a name for himself and I decided to track him down. I guess I wanted some sort of 'Closure' or something else I saw on the Oprah Winfrey show, I don't know. I do know that I kicked his [censored] all over Paragon City when I finally did catch up with him a couple of years ago though and sent him straight to a purpose built prison for super villains as they were being called. Unfortunately the famed 'Ziggurat' has proven to be about as secure as an open doorway and so I have been here in America ever since, living off the inheritence the Guardsman left me and 'taking the fight to the bad guys' just as I know he would be, fighting the new breed of super powered criminals wherever I can. I do find myself keeping an ear out for word on 'The Truck' more and more though. I have taken it upon myself to put that guy where he belongs, even if I know he will be out again before too long.

It's what we do after all

*BOOM*

Coming out of her reverie, Fleetfoot saw her quarry exit the warehouse just as she expected. What she didn't expect was the lout in armour blasting at the Truck with Energy bolts. It is never easy she thought to herself.

"Yo, big guy, do me a favour and lie still on the floor so the Zig 'porter can grab you" Aeronaut said, on the off chance. "No?, Ok then, how about you not hitting me whilst I pound you with enough force to level a building then?"

Oh.My.God. this guy can't be for real can he?

----------------------------------------------------------

Right then, don't panic Martin but your mouth has just run away with itself 'yet again' and you have just insulted a man who break yourself in two without any effort at all and all you can think about is the fact this suit isn't a toilet... Aeronaut ducked to his left just as a massive glowing fist slammed down into the cement surface of the Warehouse yard and he tried not to focus on the small crater it made as he said over his Comm. unit "Crossy, code 310".

Despite the gravity of the situation, Crossfire couldn't help but correct him "You mean code 301, 310 means you have been trapped in a cave in"

Aero ducked another clumsy attack and thought about his options. The villain that had just left a small crater in the floor when his punch missed his head is now about to become his next sparring partner and probably leave him a bloody pulp on the yard floor. Nope not too many options open to him right now "I am so gonna claim hazard pay for this..." Aero muttered under his breath as he punched out at the Truck with a left hook, quickly followed by his right. using the seconds his suprise assault bought him, Aeronaut switched his suit from melee to ranged combat and let loose with a barrage of energy bolts. There, that ought to make him think twice... oh [censored]. Aero's mouth dropped behind his helmet as the Truck got up from the floor rubbing his chin "You're gonna have to do better than that shrimp" Truck told the hero. "I've seen bigger than you at a kindergarten class" Truck then moved forward quickly and hit Aeronaut with a barrage of well placed punches that knocked Aeronaut clear through the warehouse wall and into a pile of boxes near the centre of the large warehouse. "Pah, heroes.." Truck muttered just as a red boot struck him squarely in the face.

"Well lookie here, I've found an abandoned truck" Fleetfoot quipped as she kicked him again, this time in the groin. "whoops, slipped. Don't worry though, what are the odds I actually hit anything?" she asked in her heavy mancunian accent as she kicked him again, dodging the Trucks slow attacks with ease. "You know, considering this is the fourth time I have kicked your [censored], I would have thought you would be prepared by now... I guess thats why you will never be anything more than a two-bit criminal Truck, no imagination..." she said as she continued to kick at the villains massive body. Truck couldn't agree more, it had been four times and he would have to be the biggest fool on the Isles not to have learned from his mistakes. "Pah, you can't hurt me, you're nothing more than a little girl trying to do a grown ups job" he said, trying to goad Fleetfoot into attacking again, he needed an opening and she hasn't become confident enough to leave one yet... Fleetfoot kicked again and again, each kick came too quickly to allow any kind of response and Truck was thankful that he took his medication before he came over to Paragon City as he could barely feel Fleetfoots kicks. Suddenly Fleetfoot ducked down low to sweep his legs after trying unsuccesfully to knock him to the floor with an overhead kick, creating the opening he was looking for... Perfect.

Truck moved in with startling speed, lunging downward with the palm of his hand against the top of Fleetfoots head and forced her down onto the floor, he quickly followed this up by smashing both his fists down hard against her prone body. "Heh heh, you're right, I should have been prepared" he said as he secured Fleetfoots hands together with handcuffs "Don't try to move, these cuffs are made by Crey and they are designed to dampen super powers, part of a contingency plan for when a Protector goes rogue I guess. Oh and I checked before I came to this god damned city and they work perfectly well on mutants so don't get your hopes up" with that, Truck moved toward the hole he made in the warehouse wall "Come on out Tin-man, I have something for you"

Great, an intelligent super villain. Just what my night needs. Scanning the room for anything useful Aeronaut noticed that attached to the centre of the roof was what looked like a winnebago camper van. Just what kind of paper warehouse have I stumbled into here? further investigation proved fruitless, to all appearances this warehouse houses only a great big van attached to the roof for some reason and four piles of crates dotted around the warehouse floor and if the other piles are full of paper like the one the Truck launched him into they will be limited use. Well I could always write him a complaint letter I suppose. Great, all this has done is provide this big ******* a wider open area to pound at me in. "Oi slim, what makes you think I want to go out there with you?, if you think I am that stupid you must be an idiot" oh my God what am I doing? "What, you think you're gonna get hit by something large and heavy if you come in here?"Oh boy. Aeronaut thought to himself as he realised he should have planned to do just that. "Come on in chicken and let's finish this"

Truck grinned, this guy is a moron. "Whatever you say pal, I need to work off my dinner anyway" he made the hole in the wall large enough for himself to enter the building and walked up to Aeronaut, his eight foot tall frame easily dwarfing the Hero's rather respectable six. "Right then shrimp, lets do this"

Marvelling at the fact the bad guy had actually walked up to him as if it were a boxing match and not a fight for thier lives, Aeronaut took the chance to released a full charge of energy against the villain at short range instead of responding verbally and quickly followed this through with an energy charged punch, ducking quickly to his right to avoid the Trucks retaliation. I don't think I even fazed him, my Christ. Aero thought as he used the momentum gained from his dodge to jump up above the truck whilst the bigger man was off balance and smashed down hard with both his fists and then quickly brought his fists down again for good measure. The Truck, knocked to the floor by the first attack was sent spinning by the second and he found it hard to concentrate "Good one Tin-man, but I bet you wasn't expecting this" and with that Truck stood back up and jumped up in the air to grab hold of the underbelly of the camper van, his extra weight causing the ceiling mounts to buckle. How much does this guy weigh? Aeronaut wondered as the ceiling came down on him.

Having let go of the van as soon as he heard the restraints give way the Truck was able to roll out of the way and get behind a pile of crates before a large section of the ceiling and the Winnebago smashed into the centre of the warehouse where he and his opponent stood not thirty seconds before. "Well that takes care of that" he said to no one in particular "Time to get me some limey [censored]"

"Here, catch" Aeronaut shouted as he dropped an incendiary grenade onto the pile of paper filled crates from his vantage point thirty foot above the giant villain. I really wish I would remember what I keep in my belt. Aeronaut threw another after the first and then let loose with another volley of energy blasts before cutting off his suits miniature engines to land directly behind Truck. "You know, I hate it when people try to crush me under a couple of tonnes of metal and concrete" Aero grumbled as he knocked the villain forward into the flames "It really puts me in a bad mood and believe me when I say I wasn't in the best of moods to begin with, I mean WHY the hell do you break into an empty warehouse in the middle of a freezing cold night?" looking up, Aero saw the part of the ceiling directly above them was still intact. Good. Aeronaut attacked the ceiling with volley after volley of energy blasts until enough of the roof had come down on top of his giant apponent.

Seeing no movement within the debris, Aeronaut decided to check in with Crossfire "Got the guy. He is currently buried beneath the warehouse ceiling"

"What did you say? Crossfire returned with alarm. You do remember the 'no collateral damage' talk last week don't you?, I mean Shnyet is going to.."

"Don't even start with me Cross, you would not believe what this guy threw at me" Aeronaut cut in.

Aero moved back to the hole in the wall that had been made earlier when he was knocked inside the building and noticed a female hero dressed in red lying prone on the floor.

"You ok over there?" Aero asked

"Sod off" came the reply "Get me out of these ruddy cuffs and I will show you how ok I am"

This is exactly why I won't ever understand women Aero thought to himself as he walked over to the female Hero Men are always going to be in the wrong no matter what we do, I could come home from work early one day to find my girlfriend in bed with three men, a woman and a goat but I would be the one in the wrong because I didn't tell her I would be back home early. "You know, I am not the man who put these cuffs on you, you could show a little respect"

"I know you ain't, he's a bloody great big lummox who wouldn't know one end of a car from the other. You, you're just the muppet who let him get away" Fleetfoot nodded towards the departing villain as she spoke.

Aeronaut turned to see the giant run off in the direction of Independance Port "Oh great, another job well done". he said and shot at the centre of the handcuffs with his least powerful blast.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Fleetfoot demanded

"Like I have a key" Aero snapped back and shot the handcuffs again, this time he split the connecting chain in two, disabling the Crey power inhibiting system as he did so "There, nothing to it"

"Well come on then, if we dash we can catch him before he leaves for the Rogue Isles" the female hero said, rubbing her wrists as she started to run after Truck.

"My names Aeronaut by the way"

"Charmed, I'm Fleetfoot. Hurry up or we'll lose him"

"No THIS is why I won't ever understand women" Aero grumbled to himself as he took off in pursuit.

----------------------------------------------------------

3 DAYS AGO :

The Truck hated Sharkhead Isle, it always put him in a foul mood when he had to go there and he had an appointement with Crash Cage which annoyed him a little bit too. The woman just never shuts up but apparently she has a big tip off on some tech that could help him out the next time he meets Fleetfoot so he had to grin and bear it. That british [censored] has been on his case for years, all because her father or something died in a fight with him once and he couldn't even remember the guy she harp's on about. It's hard to remember any one individual fight when every days a struggle to be top of the pile.

"Ah finally, I almost let another contact have this bit of info" Crash Cage told him as he arrived at the designated spot near the edge of The Pit.

"You wouldn't have done something that stupid" Truck growled as he reached out in anticipation of being given an envelope.

Crash Cage looked about nervously, as if she were looking for something. This put Truck on edge and he immediately scanned the horison. "What are you playing at Crash?" he asked with a sneer

"Oh you know, looking out for my interests as always. Warehouse 301 in Port Oaks if you survive" Crash Cage said "Sorry Truck, business is business" and with that Crash Cage ran off as three Sky Skiffs bore down on him from the sky and two dozen or so Sky Raider Mercenaries surrounded Truck.

"It's never easy" Truck muttered bitterly to himself as he prepared to fight them all.

----------------------------------------------------------

57 MINUTES LATER :

This building looks abandoned Truck thought as he arrived at Warehouse 301 I hope I don't have to find Crash again, the mood I am in she wouldn't like the outcome of the meeting. Looking around, he saw some fresh footprints in the dirt and decided to risk breaking into the building. After all it's not like the RIP would be able to do anything about it.

Truck entered the building and saw two Crey guards walking a perimeter patrol "Good, this is the right place" he muttered as he sneaked up behind the two guards and pushed thier heads together, knocking them both out. "Now to find the damned tech"

After about ten minutes search and several other guards dealt with, Truck finally found what he was looking for. A pair of handcuffs capable of nullifying super powers. "Perfect" Truck said smiling, all he needed to do now was test the thing...

----------------------------------------------------------

2 DAYS AGO :

Truck Grimaced as another ball of ice hit him. Snarling, he said "You gotta do better than that, Forst" and jumped forward before she could attack him again and punched Caldurforst hard in her midriff, causing her to shoot her next iceball out of the window.

"What the hell do you think you are doing" Caldurforst demanded "I work for Arachnos you ape. Do you not know what will happen to you?"

"Actually no I don't" Truck honestly replied as he hit her a second time "But I think they would want you to do it" punching her again as he talked.

"I'll be honest Forst, I havent got anything against you but I need to test a bit of tech on a mutant before tomorrow"

"And you never thought to ask me nicely?"

"Not really, no.." Truck answered and punched Caldurforst again, knocking her out "You see, I don't know what will happen to your powers in the long run" and With that Truck placed the handcuffs on the prone woman and waited patiently for her to gain conciousness.

"Ah there you are" he said as Caldurforst started to stir "please, try to hit me with everything you have"

The look on Caldurforsts face was all the answer Truck needed as she tried in vain to freeze the water in the air to form one of her infamous 'iceballs'

"Oh good, they work then" Truck smiled at her as he knocked her out again and took the handcuffs off her wrists and left before she could wake up.

----------------------------------------------------------

YESTERDAY :

"So let's go over this again, I go to Brickstown and break into a Council secret base and steal plans for a winnebago?" Truck asked the masked Arachnos agent.

The masked man only nodded

"Okay then, let's get this over with, I will be back in two days with the disk"

----------------------------------------------------------

RIGHT NOW :

"You heard me, I am chasing an eight foot tall beast of a man through the streets of Paragon City accompanied by the worlds most annoying woman. I am going to quit after finishing this I swear to god" Aeronaut complained over the Comm. Unit "I don't deserve this treatment"

Grinning Crossfire replied "you know I think you have quit at least twice before now"

"Shut up, this isn't funny"

"If you are quite finished whinging, we have almost caught the bugger" Fleetfoot snapped at him in her north english accent "Quite why you insist on talking to yourself is beyond me"

Aeronaut couldn't even bring himself to explain who he was actually talking to, he had spent the last ten minutes with this woman and all he had gotten from her was grief, it was pushing him over the edge and he wasn't in the best of moods since being punched through a brick wall not too long ago.

"Look, you insisted on accompanying me here and for that I am a little grateful" Aeronaut said as politely as he could manage "But if you don't shut up I am going to kill you"

"You mean try you armour clad idiot, you couldn't even take the Truck down"

"He threw a camper van at me you arrogant piece of.."

"Errm... you have left your Comm. unit on Aero, you do know this is being recorded right?" Crossfire interjected.

"Don't start with me Crossfire, I am this close to shooting someone, don't make it be you"

"Be quiet for a second would you ?" Fleetfoot demanded as she came to a halt by the Icon Store in Independence Port, Aero Stopped with her.

"I think I see him over there" She pointed in the direction of the Ocean "He is jumping from roof to roof do you see?"

"Got him, right then, I will fly up and grab him before he gets to whereever he is going" Aeronaut told her "you follow me on foot and back me up"

"Oh marvellous plan that, just tell me exactly how you are going to grab a half ton on muscle and we will do just that" Fleetfoot Sneered "No here's what we do..." she trailed off to barely a whisper as she detailed her plan to Aeronaut

To be Concluded at some point...

Right then, I have compiled the last two so called installments of this story into one and added what I Considered to be 'Part three'. I cleaned it all up as well as I could as well so hopefully it reads easier too.

I really like it, very well written.
But hurry with your next installment .

Standing on a rooftop in Independance port, Truck thought back over the evenings events. Everything started off great, the Council base was right where his source said it was and that was a first considering his luck over the last Few days. He had managed to despatch the guards with ease, they were obviously not expecting anyone to have an interest in that particular operation and truck couldn't blame them. It was a recreational vehicle for $£%*&^'s sake, what do Arachnos expect to do with it, take over the nations caravan parks and picnic areas?. With a resigned sigh Truck focused on the two hero's attempts at foiling him, after all he was just paid to get the info and it's none of his business what Arachnos do with the stuff afterwards. That Tin-Man in particular surprised him, Fleetfoot he expected because the £%&$ had been on his case for years now, but that guy... who set him on my trail? what was he doing there?. Not that it matters much, the hero hadn't been able to stop him despite throwing everything he had at him, collapsing the roof was an unexpected touch though and truth be told that hurt more than a little. "Thank £$%* for my meds" Truck muttered to himself bitterly and looked around for his ride out of town, the boat should be close by now "Aha" truck declared as he spotted the flashlight signal not too far up the coast and leaped over.

"NOW!!!" A female voice yelled and the Truck was hit mid-air by the bodies of both Aeronaut and Fleetfoot. the force of the impact caused the three of them to crash to thr gound.

"Now THAT is how you stop a half ton of muscle mid air" Fleetfoot said triumphantly.

"Yeah, yeah, now just stop these stars spinning round my head and we'll call it perfect" Aero retorted, he couldn't bring himself to congratulate her.

Truck sprang to his feet, the initial shock of impact gone, he smirked at the pair "You two are going down" he told them and launched a flurry of blows at Aeronaut that sent the hero flying back thirty yards into some metal girders. With Aeronaut out of the immediate fight, Truck focused on Fleetfoot, all thought of restraint gone he no longer wante to humiliate the female hero, he wanted to destroy her. "You should have stayed away £%&$, now I'm going to have some fun". Fleetfoot dodged trucks initial attacks with ease although she was a little concerned as he seemed a lot faster than on the last couple of occasions they had fought "You're not as slow as you were last time, Big guy, but don't get cocky" she told the giant as she launched into an attack of her own, kicking at the Trucks torso with lightning speed forcing him back a couple of paces "You will never be anything but a jumped up scumbag" she said and somersaulted over her enormous opponent, launching a roundhouse kick followed by a leg sweep when she landed, succeeding in knocking the disoriented villain to the floor. "Stay the hell down" she told Truck "You aren't going to win this one"

Aeronaut was in pain. Every part of his body screamed out in protest as he got to his feet. "They don't pay me enough for this &$£&"

"You talking to me?" Crossfire asked, concerned at the obvious strain in Aero's voice.

"Not really"

Looking around, Aeronaut saw Fleetfoot succesfully execute a somersault over the Truck and witnessed her forcing the villain to the floor

"Oh great, like she needs anything else to rub in my face"

Aeronaut didn't notice the blue skinned woman close in behind him, his head was spinning and he found it difficult to focus. The first he knew of the unseen foe was when he found himself encased in ice, unable to move.

"Don't move" Caldurforst told him "You won't want to miss this"

After she was sure that Aeronaut was out of the fight, Caldurforst walked over to the other pair, encasing Fleetfoot in ice similar to Aeronaut and continuing to walk over to the prone body of the Truck.

"Ah there you are" She mocked as Truck gained conciousness "Please, try to hit me with everything you have. Remember those words ape? You said them to me shortly after stripping me of my powers for your own amusement" Balls of ice slammed into trucks body as she shrieked "HOW DARE YOU!"

This really isnt my night Aeronaught thought as he tried to free his arm enough to reach into his belt First I have a half ton giant beat the [censored] out of me, then I get my ear chewed off by a woman I helped out and now this. It's almost enough to make me call it a night he succeeded in freeing his arm well, almost

"You know, I'll be honest Truck, I didn't think you would get this far. Of course I didn't think they would send the 'Keystone Cops' here after you once I dropped word of your operation to one of the local snitches" Caldurforst told the beaten giant "you were right you know, Arachnos did want me to deal with you. Can you believe they questioned my ability to be of future use to them?"

"Rot in hell, bi.." Truck began

"QUIET!!" Caldurforst shrieked, then forced herself calm "I am monologuing, I really did go to some trouble in finding you as Arachnos seem to think you are an asset and did not want to help me in finding you. I had to go elsewhere and lucky me, you seem to have made an enemy of Lieutenant Chalmers. In him I had the perfect ally in this cause and a way into Paragon City."

Turning her attention to Fleetfoot, Caldurforst walked over to her. "This one I had heard would be after you as soon as you set foot in the City but I could not be sure she would be able to take you down, as I believe you last fought before you found the enhancement drug the Crey carelessly let slip from thier fingers eight months ago. Also I had no idea where to find her and so had no way of finding you which, as you can probably tell, has been the point of this whole exercise"

Truck couldn't believe it, CALDURFORST of all people had planned this?. Well at least it explained where the tin-man came from, he was just a local hero dragged into Forsts attempt at revenge.

"Yes, I can see by your face you realise the situation you are in. Chalmers had an agent slipping hero's information, strengthening the Sky Raiders position here by weakening the Council's and he had gotten wind of a small out of the way base with no real military presence and limited scientific assets. Basically it was a store for all the tech that the council found no use for, all the 'deadwood' was eventually shipped there and eliminated." Caldurforst smiled with glee as she watched trucks face as he realised he had been played for a fool. "Yes, yes Truck, the 'agent' that sent you here to Paragon City was on of Chalmers men. You really are a fool."

Cackling madly, Caldurforst created a huge Icicle in the air in front of her and grasped it with both hands. "Now you die Truck"

"...and that's about all we can learn from Psycho Hose-beast" Aeronaut said from behind Caldurforst as he attacked her with a volley of energy blasts. "Why is it all the really hot women are so cold?"

Screaming in pain, Caldurforst spun round to face her armoured apponent "Impossible!. I had you trapped!" she screeched angrily

"A little trick I picked up fighting one of my Commanders in the Arena" Aero replied calmly as he shot Caldurforst again "Oh, and nothings impossible"

Caldurforst recovered from the second assault and sent a blast of cold at her foe to slow him down enough for her to launch a barrage of iceballs at Aeronaut, all of which hit thier mark.

"You should have stayed out of this hero"Caldurforst Howled as she prepared another salvo of iceballs. "I was just going to despatch the ape here and leave. Now, I am going to kill you too"

"Not if I have anything to say about it" Came a fresh female voice from over Aeronaut's shoulder. "Fortunately, I do" Scapegoat finished and trapped Caldurforst behind an electical prison, the villains iceballs falling to the floor harmlessly.

Aeronaut smiled beneath his helmet, here comes the cavalry.

"Crossfire told me you were in trouble" Scapegoat told him, smiling warmly "But you seem to have things pretty much in order, go on, I'll wait here"

Aeronaut walked over to Caldurforst, his fists glowing with charged energy. "Nothing personal, miss. Well, it's a little bit personal" he told her and brought his fists down hard. "The Zig 'porter won't touch you if you're concious"

Once Caldurforst had been zapped away to the Ziggurat, Aero turned to face the Truck, the man that had bested him twice now in thirty minutes. "You've been led around by the nose. That's got to hit you where it hurts"

"&£$% off hero" Truck replied

"You first" Aero said as he smashed his fists down hard against the giants head.

"Finally" Aero muttered as he watched the teleport system take the villain off to the Zig.
----------------------------------------------------------

"Trust me Scape, you DON'T want to thaw it out any quicker" Aeronaut told her as she was looking for a way to free Fleetfoot. "infact, we should leave now and report back to base.."

"Will you get over here and help this poor woman!" Scapegoat commanded imperiously and Aeronaut obeyed automatically. How does she do that he thought to himself I obey her more than my own mother

"Who is she anyway?" Scapegoat asked

"Her names Fleetfoot, she's British and doesn't like that big giant guy much. That's about as much as I know." Aero replied and he blasted away chunks of ice, exposing fleetfoots upper left arm and shoulder. There we go, She will be fine. Let's go?" Aeronaut asked hopefully.

"You wait right there until this woman is free Martin" Scapegoat scolded "I can't believe you would leave her like this"

spend twenty minutes with her Aero thought bitterly "Sorry Scape" He said aloud, suddenly aware Scapegoat was staring at him "Won't happen again".

After five minutes Fleetfoot was completely free and was brought up to speed on what happened to the Truck and Caldurforst.

"So we won then?" She said "It ruddy well doesn't feel like we did"

"Yeah, I know what you mean" Aero replied "At least we are both alive and the bad guys are in prison"

"Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing" Scapegoat added with a smile "Or at least that's what Aero here keeps telling everyone when he screws up"

Once again glad that his full bodysuit and helmet mask any sign of embarrassment Aeronaut replied "Yeah well, you did good out here against the truck Fleetfoot, he would have taken me down hard if not for you"

Surprised at this remark and her malicious comment about Aero's fighting skills lost on her lips she replied, "Yeah, you did good too"

"Well then, now we are all friends, let's go back to base" Scapegoat told the pair "we can get warm and debrief with a good cup of coffee"

Cold and weary, the three hero's headed off to the PTA tram station.

"You know Fleetfoot, I am really glad I met you tonight" Aeronaut said suddenly cheery and when you try some of Beet's coffee, I will be even happier
