Sonic Powers

Honestly guys: do yo think sonic powers suck?

I'll make myself clear. My first character, and still favourite one, is Blue Rush, a Kinetic/Sonic Defender, at the moment at level 22.
Just for fun I created Kid Rush, that is also Kinetic but with Lighting as second power pool. From what I can see, lightning powers seem to be most effective at the lowest levels, and more useful (for example they can steal end while they strike, reducing their usage cost a lot).
So, did I made a mistake in purchasing sonic or in the long term it's gonna be a good choice anyway? In 23 levels I only took Shout, Scream and a third attack (that I don't remember the name of at the moment, not howl but the other one) from the Sonic pool and sometimes it's frustrating to deliver so few damages (though I know damage dealing is not tailor-made for defenders, of course)...

Do you think the other powers comin' up in the sonic pool later, say from amplify on, are gonna be useful? Or should I open the fighting pool or something (at the moment I have as addictional power pools, Super Speed and Medicine) to make up for a bad starting choice??

Or, is there any way to make the sonic side effect (weakening foe's damage res) more effective?

Please give me just your sincere opinion, thanks!

I have found the Sonic Blasts to be very effective. I think each blast gives the enemy hit a 15% resist debuff, so for example a boss being hit by shriek, scream then shout will have a significant debuff on them (and its even more useful to when teaming to enhance a scrapper/blasters damage output).

You also have a useful aoe sleep for if you plan to solo and a single target disorientate (which both give the enemy a resist debuff aswell).

Amplify is one of those powers thats great to take for a power you definately don't want to miss (ie using it before a Fulcrum etc).

Oh and Fulcrum then your Sonic Nuke = Heaven. Pop a blue after that and anything not dead has a resist debuff and is disorientated (so is easy pickings).

Thanks, good to know that I didn't make a mistake

Actually my impressions were related to the fact that until now I'v always been doing few damages with the basic attacks, but the effect you have been telling me about with the higher level sound powers sounds very good to me, now I'll just have to level up as fast as possibile to get there

You'll have that with every defender set, some things may seem more powerful than others though depending on who you are fighting. I.e. you mentioned that you felt like you were doing more dmg with an /elec. Were you fighting clockwork? If you were that is why Another example may be someone might find dark blast more powerful, but they are screwed when they come across banished pantheon.

I wouldn't say you have made a bad choice and I consider every defender secondary to have its good and bad points. The -res from sonic is good, unfortunately though you can't enhance it in anyway like you can the end drain from elec. I can see kin/sonic working fairly well together aswell. Your AoE sleep can be used to good effect for controlling your anchors for transfusion and transferance, and the -res effect complimenting your other siphon powers for example.

I absulutely love my dark secondary
Those 2 Cone -acc powers helps tremendously at keeping the team alive, as 75% of the people oyu will team with wont get the heal, and even melee classes starts to run away when at low health, making it quite hard to heal them

I can imagine Kin/sonic being a decent soloer, with the siphon power and -res all stacking up and boosting your damage considerably. I toyed with the idea of making my kin a /sonic as well when i made her, but the relative uselessness of the first power (Which you MUST pick) steered me away
