no ^^ that's normal, i've start to really enjoy it a 32 with circle of fire... after with the sword and fiery embrace it become a good tanker.

Before getting good aoe, good damage, good armor (with though) it takes time, that's the problem of the fire tank
and after all these choice, you're 50.... and you put away your tank cos it serve at nothing in pvp, and you've done everything you wanted to do befor in pve

Is it me or have we wandered around the topic without answering the main question.

I might have missed it some where in this massive post, but @Frouge are you going for concept, ubberness, ease of play, solo/team, pve/pvp or a general all rounder?

But then again I get boardd with tanking by about lvl 15 so not really the best person to ask.....

Aimed at no one really, but I think the problem with these type threads is the degenerate into my tanke is better than yours.

To be honest I would say that most combos work in most situations and as far as I can see, the devs have treied to make it so there is not one ultra ubber combo. But there does seem to be a big thing with trends atm. There will be a flavor of the month combo, you'll see 50 of them running round atlas/hollows. Then next month there will be a new top combo repeate above. Maybe I'm just getting a little tired of the forum thing?

Wanting to sample every AT at some point, I am a complete utter novice at tanking. TO that end, I'd like to try something that works really well together. It doesn't matter how easy or difficult it is to play; I want a challenge, and as long as I have a few move combos that work well I'll be fine (I hope ). Besically I want something that is effective and fun.

So, what works well?

I think its important to understand the purpose of a tanker and then to learn how to do it.

There is a noticable difference bewteen poor/average/good/great tankers. A great tanker is huge asset to any team, whilst a poor tanker is usually a liability.

A great build cannot create a great tanker from a foundation of poor tanking skills. Whilst I would argue that a skilled tanker can make a poor build work.

So, in conclusion;

1.Learn the art of tanking

2.Choose a powerset that you think wil be fun

3.Learn the art of tanking

4.Have fun

I have been thinking for a while of rolling a tanker alt, now the guy will be aiming as soloing and no PvP on this one!

So guys is Fire/Ice still the "in" herding build?

Even with Ice being buffed in I7?

I suppose Fire has all the damage though.
If they do something to burn in I7 (Ie: Make em not run all over the place) then Fire/Fire will still be the best?

Are Stone/Stone tanks any good at herding?

Yes they have the -damage of Granite but a few good AoE's, in the melle department.

Any ideas?

IMO I'd say Fire/Ice or Ice/Fire would be the best herding builds. Inv/Fire would be third and Fire/Fire fourth.

The reasons are:-
Fire/Ice, Burn, Blazing Aura, Ice Patch.
Ice/Fire, Combustion, FSC, Icicles + infinite endurance from Energy Absorption. Better defensiviely than Fire + scalable defence from Energy Absorption.
Inv/Fire, Combustion, FSC, better defensively against S/L so choose S/L damage targets, Invincibility provides good defence when herding. No damage aura though.
Fire/Fire, Combustion, FSC, Blazing Aura and Fiery Embrace. Burn when appropriate. Worse defensviely that the other 3.

Other possibilties might be
Fire/SS due to Rage + Blazing Aura and Foot Stomp + Burn. I'm not sure it would work though.
Stone/Fire. Mud pots + Combustion + FSC + granite.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
