Illusion / Empath
Personally I wished I didn't go down the same path.
On my trial-account on the Us-servers I was a Empathy/Dark defender and was using my attacks a lot to debuff the enemies to keep the team alive.
So when I finally got my EU-copy I decided to go for Empathy as secondary. It's a powerful enough combo, but unless Recovery Aura is running I have to sacrifice either control or healing. Yesterday I was blinding a void and another controller didn't get healed because of that.
Still it got me through my first 44 levels.
i find that healing comes first, at the bigging of the fight send out decoys and spectacal terror then work on buffing/healing the group. Im not saying your way of playing is wrong i just find that the easiest way
Defiant 50's
There are a few ill/emp that have made it 50. Not quite the same amount as ill/kin though.
I think the thing I like about controllers is that you are using both your primary and secondary quite extensively. With tanks/scrappers/brutes you activate your toggels and then just activate/use a few powers during battle.
with the controller on the other hand there is always something to be done, it is hard to do everything but that is what makes it so much fun for me.
i have a fire/kin (only lvl 19 atm) now and that is busier than than the ill/emp (at least so far).
You can't outheal a void's damage on a Warshade, I tried that before hoping the other controller would find the Void in time.
And in the case I would have done that the second time we would have had one faceplanted Ws again, this way I spread the debt. Everybody (un)happy.

HHHeyyyyyyy i was gona say that
I had a Ill/Emp troller up to 29 on the U.S servers back in the day before I knew what a respec was,and messed the build up so I deleted him,kind of wish i had kept him now but hey ho never mind
I have a lvl 50 Ill Emp on defiant
Phantom Army = Tankers
Phantasms = Blasters
Illusion flash/blind = Holds
Empathy = heals
All thats missing is a scrapper aspect.
Up to the point where ED kicked in.
I used it so often suddenly I was the one going down whenever something used an AoE.
So I used my free respec to spec out Absorb Pain and spec in Spectral Wounds. Maybe just maybe I'll pick it back up on level 47, but I doubt it.
Before I respeced it out, I often had comments on how you didn't need AB, despite it saving their butts. So no time to test that like when heals are both slower and weaker.
3 heal SOs and I can heal for about 1200hp
and if ur team is in need of healing that badly, then u cant be doing something right? mind you I havent played LDF
in a while. What have you got your heals slotted with, think mines 3 recharge, 3 heal
im with 4 healing sos and 2 endurance cost sos, just so i can keep healing although i might drop one healing so and get a recharge speed so *cringes* TO MANY SOs >.<
3 recharge 3 heal is by far the best way to go for a /emp controller. The extra heal is just not worth the slot, better to have another recharge in there so you can spam it more.
ok thanks for the idea!
Not many high level illusion / empaths around i seen a few, its intrestign set for me i like healing, buffs and holding. I also found that i can deal quite a bit of damage and hold agro. End drain isnt that big and its genrally fun to play BUT i would say its quite hard to do everything, i mean trying to heal and hold agro is rather hard and genrally gets on me nerves. I would say its not the most fun but its very helpfull for a team
