What villain to create
I'd say Corruptor for you - 75% Blaster, 75% Defender.
Well, firstly i haven't played CoH but here's my views...
Remember it's also very specific on powersets, to sum a MM up (for example) is very has as DM is a good team powerset but something like sticky arrow (or whatever its called isnt)
MM - The worst for team play, even as a mastermind on my main EVERYONE goes robots for the dmg output and my God do they get in the way. Superb for solo play or duo's tho.
Brute - The tank and in this respect useful in a team but they seem to lack in damage as they only deal it when they've been fighting for so long or tanking lots against multiples.
Corruptor - The team player, Team buffs and ranged attacks, if you want to solo lots might not be the best choice. A good choice for PvP, but thats arguable and i'm not so experienced.
Dominator - Good in Teams, not the best solo but so-so. No idea about PvP potential.
Stalker - Possibly the worst team toon ever, your not a tank but your melee, hit and run all the way, but i should imagin awesome fun in PvP, mines only level 13 atm so not got to test that out yet.
Echoing the Corruptor suggestion, since they're Blasters/Defenders. If you like healing specifically, there's the Thermal Corruptor secondary which is the closest thing CoV has to Empathy - the heals are much weaker though, and the buffs are different.
If you don't like Controllers, I wouldn't go for a Dominator, as they have similar primaries - holds, etc. Their secondaries are damage-dealing rather than buff/debuff though.
MMs are really quite odd when compared to all the other ATs (summoning pets for a primary, and weak buff/debuff secondaries), and I'd suggest just trying one out to see if you like it at all. I don't think it'd take long to see if it suits you, since you get the pets right away, and you can quickly see if standing back and letting them do most of the work is fun for you.
I'd say corrupters are the AT for you.

Well, you obviously havent seen GOOD MMs at work. The strength of a MM is his ability to actually control his pets. Saying that all these pets get in the way and thus arent useful in teams, kinda shows you never teamed with an illusion controller in CoH (which you have said, you dont have CoH) where pets tend to get in the way WAY more often.
PS. please dont see this last comment as a rant or flame or whatever, its just to point out MMs can be good in teams
"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"

Cool thank you guys I hadnt thought of a corruptor before but will now, now i just have to start thinking of names, at least i have a couple of weeks, as it really will take me that long lol
Well, as a mm myself i know that they dont always get in the way, i was talking specifically of the robot pets, because as yet ive never teamed with another mm which uses them who doesnt try to run in the front, thus blocking the way. Sure if you find a robots MM which lets ppl get thru doors etc first it wouldnt be to bad.

What are you on about Master Minds are the tanks of game a good Master Mind would use his pets to grab the agro 1st then letting the team mop up the remiander of every thing else. But you do do a lot of Robot MM about and as there are so many of em there the one give MM a bad name as most of dont have a clue what there doing.

As I siad above the Master Mind is the tanks of the game a Brute is more of a Damage Dealing Machine yes they dont do much damage at the start of a fight but when furry kicks in Ohhh boy.

Got to agree with this but apart from there very good for solo.

Yeah good in teams ok solo but lots of hard work as for PvP a controller that can do damage no brianer really.

See got to dissagree with you there agian a stalker can be very usefull to a team he can take out the big bosses in one or two shots. Yes it means a lot of running and hideing agian but its dam good fun.
And PvP yeah its great fun in PvP but we are not as uber as what people think we are you spend a lot of time chasing after one person and waiting. If if your spooted throught hide its game over you my as well leg it.
Now... I haven't played Dominators that much but I do have two of them. I can't say I find them very hard to solo. They have holds and some descent attacks so just hold'em and wear'em down. I find them very fun to play and my own thoughts has been of them as someone above described Corruptors; blaster meets controller. Not saying that the above statements are wrong though...
Right, this really depends on what you want. Corruptor, gd damage dealer and it has powers to de-buff others, buff allies, heal itself, hold things etc. As said, it is a cross between a blaster and defender. Dominator, your upgraded controller. Able to take a bit more, they have melee powers as well as some ranged ones and the primary holding powers. I say you should definitely try them, as their domination special power is unbelievable. Brutes and Stalkers are roughly the same, both melee orientated but brutes can take more damagae than stalkers, in most cases, but a stalker can deal more damage. Masterminds, when you know how to use them they are devastating. Just dont get robots, too common and have no special abilities apart from a heal/bubble armour. Mercs can blind a whole group which is useful, and they deal really good damage. Necro is also technical, not as damaging if not used right but when u use them they can be awesome, they have the ability to heal, hold, de-buff and deal gd damage at range and melee. They also get an extra pet, when 1 pet dies u can turn them into a ghost, which are pretty powerful and a range that is double that of any snipe. Ninjas can be useful as well, and they deal gd damage, but up to the last pet they do most of their damage in melee. Want anything else then ask.
gotta disagree with you hum..
doms are upgraded controllers? upgraded in what way? sure they may be upgraded in damage, but now lack (de)buffs and their crowd control is less than a controller... doesnt say I hate doms cause i kinda enjoy mine, but its wrong to say its an upgraded troller
comparing brutes and stalkers to be roughly the same is wrong as well.. they are meant to be played way different. A brute is meant to go on a fury rampage through mobs while stalkers are supposed to pick 1 off at a time, lurking in the shadows. Plus brutes can maintain a higher damage dealing compared to the single frontload damage of stalkers. (rage+full fury+KO blow... oh boy )
Robots not having much to offer? I play a robo myself (before EVERYBODY started rolling robo MMs). With the full upgrade your protector bots can disorient mobs (seeker drones + photon grenade -or whatever its called-). If you pick MM pick it based on how you tend to play yourself. If you like to stay at the back a bit blasting away, robots really are your best friend. Also MMs get some pretty nice (de)buffs. Also bots dont really need alot of special abilities once you get final upgrade seeing the stuns and the massive damage they deal is enough to rip through mobs anyway. Like I said, your choice of henchmen depends on your style of play. Having that said, there are indeed alot of bad robo MMs out there that can really mess up a good team.

Forgot to change the upgraded part lol
And yeah they do play different, the similarity in melee but the style of play in which u play to be a successful stalker/brute is quite diff. And i knew some people would say that brutes can do as much as stalkers, but can they do as much as an AS strike, if so, then they might be worth a look in
And i say that because i have never seen the ROBOTS (i refer to pets not the photon grenade in the set, although i should mention it) stun a whole group, i have only seen them blast away. When i played robots in BETA i liked them, im not putting them down im just saying they do not have as much technicality as the other sets. And yeah, only play an MM if u wanna be an MM, cos u can get some that get the whole team killed or savw the whole team.
Ok from the advise given i have created a dark/thermal corrupter and loving her Thank you everyone for giving me advise, she is so much fun to play. All i have to do now is try all the other ATs out but at least i know i have one i really like.
I've always enjoyed Stalkers, being that they are exactly howq I play. I scout. Heroes - I get Invisibility, on my Scrapper, and Scout the map updating everyone on the trouble ahead. Some people hate it because it shows up on the map... Whats better, wondering into the unknown or knowing what your up for?
Anyway just sharing my playstyle as you may or may not find it fitting for an alt toon. Enjoy.
Please help, i will be getting CoV for xmas and ive been reading up and cant decide what AT to chose. In CoH i mostly enjoy playing my blaster and healer, and whilst i have tried a tanker and controller im not as keen.
I was thinking of creating a MM but keep hearing that most people have them, is that because they are easy to play? I know that i should just create one of each and see what i like but i was hoping i could have some good/bad points about them all which will hopefully give me some insight, or possibily make me even more indecisive, but if i cant be playing then i will spend as much time as possible thinking about the game
