PvP - Have i missed the concept here?

I have never posted on these boards before as i have never really felt the need, but today in the pvp zones i was gobsmacked. In both bloody bay and sirens, there where groups of heroes and villians who seemed to be fighting it out, only the heroes getting the upper hand generally, when what appears to be a ceasefire breaks out. However, nobody informs me, so i continue in the normal manner of hunting down my victim when all hell breaks out cos i have actually attacked a villian. I stopped attacking because i was so taken aback!! I thought i must have been in a non pvp zone the way ppl where creating. And then to get shouted at because of doing what is natural in this zone is ridiculous.

My point is surely a pvp zone is just that, an area where u can fight against other players, not a place to have a chat with ur friends be they hero or other villians as u are sending out mixed signals!! If u dont wanna be attacked dont go in there in the first place!!?

It's a bit of each really. A place to chat to friends on the other side, and a place to go kill each other. I like chatting with them while poking my ninja blade through them personally

If people ask not to be killed, generally everyone leaves them alone. But if you don't know that they want to be left alone, they can hardly fault u for stompin em

You need to set it so that you can see hero/villian chat it in options some where. But genrally if people start moaning about getting killed in the PvP tell em to suck it up.

Hello Psychabilly

To be honest the whole PvP things a little off kilter its so new people are still getting used to the idea, kind of experienced what you described myself, I was asked nicely to stop as two people wanted to go head to head so I obliged, if they had been rude or arrogant then if I could manage it (most unlikely sad to say) I would attempt to turn them into sushi.

As long as you’re not annoying one individual repeatedly then I would point to the large warning sign out at the entry and move on to your next victim.

The very point of PvP is combat and if you’re agreeing to enter the zone by default you’re agreeing to combat.
If it’s not quite what the other persons was expecting this would not be your fault as your playing the game as it currently stands and certainly not breaking eula
(Bridger or Rockjaw please correct me there if I am woofing up the wrong tree?)

Happy Hunting

Well done, many are far less polite.

Got to agree with the general tone. If you're in a PvP zone, you should expect to be attacked.

PvP is hardly new, though, just new to this game. A lot of the newer players out there bought CoV because of the PvP aspect. They know exactly what PvP is and have probably been doing it for quite a while.

yeah, peace breaking out in a warzone. how dam inconvenient. (!)

I was trying out the whole peace in the warzone concept by logging in for the first time since s4 finished happily chatting to my team mate and scrapper extraordinaire knight stalker (in the form of his villan) in warburg when 2 villans, one a mastermind and a tanker, a hero no less!, quite happily set upon us, clearly they had no idea who they were fighting and were quickly defeated, repeatedly.
Lesson learned, to paraphrase Mr Pratchett
Never fight the small old man with a broom, or the innocent looking "squishy" cause they will inevitably turn out to be the servers pvp champions and grind you into dust!

Yup agreed, originally the arenas (added a wee while ago)werent as big as they could have been but the zones seem to hav taken off and won a lot of new fans - me and Hack included and i think S4 helped in that(dunno but i think so)
I loved PvP in Guild Wars tho i admit i avoided it in WoW although i did like the 'flag and consent system' they have, i guess this is my home here and I feel comfy with the community here so it helps a lot.

It might seem a lil tough the fact you auto consent by entering but thats the design and until it becomes a flag sysytem like WoW then its best to stear clear. But i'd still say give it a go as you never know you might like it....

My only experience is with Union, so forgive me if other servers are different (though I remember hearing Defiant was quiet). The absolute most I've seen in activity in Warburg was Sunday when I got attacked twice (badly). I know there are people out there running missions, because I see the messages, but I hardly ever actually see anyone.

So unless the only villains in Warburg are Stalkers, it hasn't taken off all that much.

Well for starters zone(s) doesn't just include one place. Most of my time is spent in Sirens. While it is relatively quiet during the day, in the evenings there are some battle royales going on. I'd say that most nights now there are at least 10-15 villains and heros on each side slogging it out sometimes many many more.
I'm not surprised that you find warberg quiet considering CoV has only been out for 4 weeks only leaving time for the hardcore gamers to reach high level. And besides, there are plenty of lvl 30 odds fighting in sirens, why not after all its where most of the lvl 50 heros seem to head.

So unless Union is utterly different than Defiant then yes i'd say it has taken off, for Defiant at least. There are certainly plenty of players like me that really did not think the arenas were useful but love the new PvP zones running around.

Go to Bloody bay then thats where all the action is. I personaly dont like Warburg I dont like the fact its Hero vs Hero vs villains vs villains it just dont seem right. But Bloody Bay now that is a fun zone to PvP in as there are always a lot of people about and it fun to do missons there to de buff the heros then go looking for some to send to the hospital.

Yes i do which is why I wrote that. I was never interested in teh arenas before and I know a lot of others too - newbies included who are now into PvP you just have to read the AT thread to see that.

Well as a Defiant lassie I cant comment on Union but defiant PvP zones are not quiet. Warburg seems to have less interest but as most villains are not high enough tyet its not really relevent. But the other two certianly are taking off. Of course there are times when its quieter but you'd get that anywhere. Its a shame your only experiance has been negative but rushing to a mission your not gonna take in too much around you, but have a peeek in the other zones you might be suprised.

Ok again I cant comment on Union and vice versa TBH. Warburg is less populated than the other two but again as above given time when villains hit higher then they too will get more action. Stalkers are a good addition for PvP dont tar them all because of one muppet plz.

Its not all negative, honest

My experience has been part negative and part laughable, actually. And rushing to missions you take in everything around you, because you're very busy looking for threats. I don't like PvP, I avoid it, my build is not designed (specifically) for it. Doesn't mean I won't engage in it if attacked, and the best way to be ready is to know there's a potential threat out there before it gets in range.

I actually tried out Bloody Bay with Nevermore, and I enjoyed it! As a zone, it looks very gothic, very suited to the style of character Nevermore is, and PvP was a bit of fun. Only found a couple of villains to fight though. *shrug* wasn't exactly a prime playing time.

One thing I did learn, is that Ninjas are rubbish against Nevermore! I actually got attacked by a Ninja Mastermind while afk, and by the time I got back, I'd hardly taken any hits worth mentioning, and still managed to mop the floor with all of his minions, and chase off the MM in question. Think myself and Zortel (using Alex Reed) caught up to him. That, or we got bored and decided to raid the villain base.

Actually managed to get right inside, past all the guards, too!

We agree on something. In beta, Bloody Bay was FFA, Warburg was HvV. This made sense since the radiation from the meteor fragments was supposed to be messing with your brains and making you over-agressive. I have absolutely no idea why they changed it, but I think it was a stupid move.

Oh, reason I'm not in Siren's Call or Bloody Bay... I hate exemping down that far and losing Teleport. It's irritating.

Meh, perhaps not in so many words but your experiace and posts have been. Like i said its a shame what happend but its still not a true representation of PvP.

I was never interested simply because I was never that into PvP, DOAC and GW it was hard to avoid and I grew to like it in those games but I didnt think I'd take to it here and I was happy leveling away without arenas which didnt gain my anything unlike PvP zones which do. Only to discover I actually enjoyed PvP and am now breeding a couple of toons for that purpose.

Many heroes are not designed for PvP, Ravenmyst is adark defender with Psionics but due to the enhancement jiggery pokery she does about as much damage as a damp hanky, but can still debuff her lil heart out. I understand you POV on PvP though, they will never make summit that everyone loves its not possible but it had to be accepted that some do.

Great bit of advise there to anyone entering the zones - use /whoall its handy to know whose out there. Above all its aobut having fun - OK some get outta hand but there are muppets everywher not just in PvP
