I'm gwetting crucified in the 4th Shadow Shard TF cus of this power.

I have no problem loosing the hitpoints but post ED the healing prevention is killing me. Anyone else experiencing the same?

I love this power, I just wish there were more like it perhaps an area effect.

I have not played my empath to much since ED but I did notice that Iseemed to spend longer not being able to be healed.
Makes it tough to keep the tanks up and running (which is priotity 1 in standard missions for me), that coupled with my heals seeming to do less ( I did not have much stuck in them in the way of enhancments anyway,I dont play the numbers game)...

Is absorb pain a power that you have respecced in since ED?

I think Absorb Pain is a power that you need to learn to use so that you don't get yourself killed when you are using it - I've had it in Psygon's build since Lvl 4 and only die when I deliberatly sacrifice myself (OK, I'm strange!).

I'm sure that given a little longer with the power you will find that you don't get slaughtered quite as much as you are now...

It's a great power...

I agree, invaluable crisis heal for tanks and for those squishys to get back to full health in one go. But I put myself in danger a lot with it as I was always in the mele fights - fun while it lasted.

I've had absorb pain since level 4 or 5... I'm now level 48. The only thing ive done to it in ED is slot it with 3 recharge and 3 heals instead of 6 heals.

I had no problem using it before Ed, it was an occasional heal (tho i used it more frequently than any other empath ive seen) used in tight spots and used to do massive heals (2040 in fact). Post Ed it does about 1000.

The problem is that because all the heals have taken a hit in terms of the hp they heal (each has been roughly halved) im having to rely on AP a lot more and am now using it with the frequency i used to use heal other.

Basically this means im spending the vast majority of my time in high level task forces unable to heal myself...

When I am finally able to heal myself again healing aura takes 2 or 3 activations to take me back to full health.. if combats still happening im usually getting pummeled thena s well..

That was my point.

hmm, well apologies... but... I've taken Psygon out several times since ED, still used Absorb as often as I did before (which is a lot) and not died through using it - but then I haven't taken Psygon to Firebase on one of those TFs...

to be honest, I took my empath to the shadowshards a few times but just died so much before ED that I just never went back. With no protection from Mez/sleep etc effects she just can't handle it (neither can my kinetics defender.. why I thought she would fare any better...)

maybe its just the shadow shards then... really felt i wasnt contributing to the team at all.

never had AP and never will, heal other and aura do fine and if they don't its tough and because of I6, healers aren't healers anymore, we're temp medics that just aren't capable of that we've done b4 :/ 408 down to 282 is stupid! and absorb pain would just make it worse, losing hp when trying to save peeps on lanaruu the mad is insane :/

You certainly kept me alive more often than not

hehe, thanks mate. But it wasn't so much keeping you alive as trading my life for yours due to ap, lol.

FWIW, I've always found having an Empath invaluable when engaged in Shadow Shard missions, TFs or standalones. Far be it for a non-Empath to remind you, but you're not just healing-bots.

Shadow shards is hell.. I hate that place so much. Only ever tried one ss tf and that didnt go well. I realized my I4 lvl 50 invul tank could do nothing against the wisps..

Im never going back there without a number of good empaths!

my prob with the shadow shards tho is that as an empath (or actually any player without status protection) you really need another player with clearmind/increase density etc otherwise you just feel like a waste of space in there. Sure you can carry breakfrees but they run out!

Yeah, Shards can be hell on an empath. Lots of AoE attacks on the TF's.

Actually, one of my favourite memories on Eir is doing the third Shadow Shard TF! At high levels, I felt I'd just turned into a buff bot, until running through that - I really felt necessary, throwing out heals left and right. It probably helps that I was teaming with a number of people I regularly team with though... including my own boyfriend, who I can simply shout at to come help if anything comes near me.

As far as Absorb Pain... I've been a devout user of it for many levels as well, but I'm a little worried about it in I6. There was another thread where it was suggested that since we now have to use it more, the length of time where we can't heal ourselves should be reduced. It's a fair point. I never found I had to repeatedly use it to the point of stacking the effect on myself in the past. I can imagine that on a large team - especially in a tough mission like something in the Shadow Shards - it could get some really heavy usage now. The period where you couldn't heal yourself was fine when it was just an emergency heal, but it doesn't work for regular use.

Thats the problem, I'm using it so much that the healing prevention effect is essentially at times becoming perma... This is ok except when i'm on a team mission against enemies with AoE attacks. (a la shadow Shards)

On a tangent, the 3rd SS Tf wasn't a problem and is definitely the most enjoyable. The 4th was the worst in terms of difficulty followed by the 2nd. The 1st wasn't hard but just takes far to far to long!

(Reading what i've just written it would appear that it's the Rularuu (spelling?) that cause me problems in the SS....
