Ice/ice troubles

I have an Ice/Ice dominator and I have found that my powers are so slow to recharge and that they use so much endurance that at lvl 5 i have still never used the dominator power. yet with my mind control/psionics dominator i am using it every 15 mins or so....

Do you think this is a bug type thing or something i will just have to live with and pile enhancements on?

I can't say I've had any such troubles. Between ice bolt, chilblain and block of ice I can mantain a pretty fair rate of fire. Add ice sword to that and you're well away. And ice blast at lvl 10 should round things off nicely (I'm just short of lvl 10 atm).

Psionics, and possibly fire, has a mild advantage that it possesses a ranged attack that recharges essentially as soon as it fires (much the same as neutrino bolt for defenders/corrupters, or jab for brutes). This means that you can build Domination straight from lvl 1, but the attack is comparitively weak, and less useful later on when you have plenty of attacks.

Personally I've found it pretty interesting - lvl 12 is my aim for today, to pick up ice slick.

Thanks for the help. I can see that it will be fine when I have lvld up a bit. I have never played any sort of controller before so it is all new to me.

I've played both these builds. With a Mind/Psy I was hitting domination almost quicker than it recharged and took me just about 1 whole bar of endurance, fighting fairly constantly (running between mobs etc).

Ice/Ice I agree is a little slower, I've found that I usually hit towards the end of reasonable mission, or if I fight a bit before I enter a short mission I can still hit Domination by the end ready for the boss.

In answer, I don't think there is any real issue with the speed of the set. Perhaps it is something to do with the powers you've chosen. For example, the single target immobilise recharges much quicker than say, the Ice Sword (and also costs a lot less endurance)

I'm working fine with the ice set, I'm not building domination as quickly as the plant doms I know, but I believe I have stronger melee attacks which kind of makes up for it. It may not be the uber build but it has a very nice feel to play.

Yeah, I too noticed that I was getting domination much more slowly than the plants/ice dominator i was teaming with today. Might be mostly because I haven't got chillblain or frostbite, though. I guess arctic air doesn't do much for domination.

As far as I can tell arctic air does nothing for domination, but it slows what you're fighting. So though you gain domination slower from your powers, those you are fighting also fight slower.

The imo's in ice I never take, cause they stop the knock down of Ice slick, so am with you on that. Your attacks do build up domination though. Hit them with that sword and watch the bar move.

I'm not really complaining because I love my Ice/Ice but I was getting slightly jealous yesterday when that Plants dom was hitting Domination so much more often than me. But she was also using AoE imob, which I've usually found just gets me killed. I'm still on the fence about Chillblain though because sometimes a single target imob can be useful and I'm a bit underwhelmed by Ice Sword Circle, which I took instead. At the moment it grabs more aggro than I can handle and does subpar damage, and the animation is long and has a stupid end where my toon just stands there doing nothing for a while. Maybe I'll start loving it more once I get Ice Slick. My scrapper certainly loves her similar katana attack, although a lot of people dislike it.

BTW, Arctic Air is slowing things down really well but boy does it suck endurance. Can't wait to get a few endred DOs for it.

Now I'm really rambling but it's fun to hear about others' domination experiences since there's still so little info out there.

Arctic Air also adds confusion, so that, ice slick and Ice Sword Circle are a winning combination. Chilblain (though I'm not getting it) would be usefull for the -fly, but would still stop people falling over on your slick.

I can't say I've had too much trouble with Flash Freeze. I usually get domination up 2 or 3 times a mission...not sure if that's more or less than other sets though.

If I'm teaming with an MM usually only get Domination once a mission, but only really need it for holding named bosses anyway, hold and hit seems to work well in all other situations.

If you play the ice / ice dominator as a controller... that'd be controlling the battle with ice slick, artic wind and block of ice.... chillblades are .. sorry [censored]... it forces the mobs to go range which most of them can do anyway .. it stops them from following down on the ice slick ... it even makes them less likely to attack their own kinds when in the arctic wind...

However at level 17... i still dont have end enough even though i got 2 DO end reduce in every attack and every move for that matter to control the fight and still attack ...

And i NEVER ever get domination... havn't even got it half recharged yet...

the domination gain from block of ice is simply to little considering the recharge..

You get domination from your attacks, most of mine builds up while I have someone held and am hitting them with Ice Blast, Ice Sword and Ice Sword Circle.

Yup, same here.

Don't try to play the Dominator as a controller. You're not. If you want to get the best out of the set, play as a dominator - attack *and* control.

Maybe you could use the trick that Brutes can use - stick Brawl on auto to get Fury up quickly. Maybe pick a quick recharge ranged power to auto instead, but it might be worth it.

Of course, you might accidentally aggro every mob you decide to look at

Ice Control has so many drops and auras it has a hard time building Domination. However, your drops and auras give you very, very good control for a dominator, and you don't have the Ice Controller's problem that you can't do damage.

Be happy!
