Yes, you can play [and make] Architect missions without 'owning' the Architect boxed set. The only restriction is with trial accounts in that they cannot access the Architect terminals.

You can play or create AE missions whether or not you own the AE box. All you have to do is log on and enter the AE building, then go from there.
You should have the AE contact in your contact list. Go talk to him and run his tutorial.

Both include a month worth of gametime, valued at 15$.

The AE box gives you a choice of one of two booster packs (Magic or Cyborg), valued at 10$.
The GvE box gives you a Pocket D teleporter (handy if you're on Virtue), and a Jump Pack that's handy on pre-travel characters, or Super-Speeders.

And there's other stuff, but yeah.

They updated the game regardless of the boxed set. So, the boxed set contains disks which can help if you ever need to reinstall, and yeah what Lucky said: you found a steal. If you don't already have codes for GVE and Architect edition, buy em. That's two months worth of game time, plus ingame goodies aplenty.

All current accounts can play everything that's been released. The boxed set coming up, Going Rogue, WILL probably require purchase to play in those new areas but that won't be until late this year or early next year.

Get both. If you are paying monthly, you are coming out way ahead.

GvE: $10

Game Time: $15
Net Cost: Negative $5

AE: $20

Game Time: $15
Booster Pack: $10
Net Cost: Negative $5

The serial codes, upon activation, will push your next billing date back a month. So no reason not to go for these.

I also recommend buying the Mac Edition as well, since it includes everything in the Valkyrie Pack plus a month of time.)

Mac Edition: $20

Game Time: $15
Net Cost: $5
