Depending on time of day, amount of traffic being demanded from the download server, if ISP throttling is taking place (and not, by default, your ISP specifically), if one or more of the routers along the way to the download server is messed up, if your router is having a bad day (it seriously happens), if you have bad cables or interference, or if your wireless is having issues, solar flares, pandimensional beings, fate...
In other words, a litany of items can cause it. Mainly, it's the first 4. There's another thread where Ping Plotter is recommended to determine if there is a problem with the path between you and the download server, do a search for that, 'cause I never remember where it is...
Secondly, if you're on a service that's bandwidth dependent and sharing (like a really heavily used cable modem branch, or a satellite connection) that could be throttling back to prevent the stream of data. They do that. Who's your ISP, and what kind of connection is it?

Quinch, do you still have problems with this?
I convinced an acquaintance to try CoH - the problem is, the download rate is horrifically slow, as in "days to download" despite that their connection is fairly fast. I don't really have much details about it, but does someone know what might be choking the updater?
