45% S/L defense spines/fire scrapper, with energy torrent, spine burst, throw spines as main attacks, consume & healing flames working.

Travel power optional.

Anyone up for the challenge? I've tried a few builds, didn't get anywhere - but I forgot you could slot immob in impale... maybe I'll just do one myself.

(For those wondering, I'd rather have 45% S/L than 45% melee.)

Well if you slot the PvP IO +3 defense in Tought Plasma or fire shield you will be at 45.4% S/L def. Now how good is the build I don't know. It as Spine Burst, Throw Spins and Energy Torrent and Consume and Healing Flames slotting good. but some of the the other slotting sucks. and some of the power I wouldn't take like Barb Swipe. Also the end I think would suck I had to use a lot of Obliteration and use them in power that take a lot of end. But I hope this helps and maybe someone could do better.

The build will chew endurance like crazy due to sucktastic end reduc slotting.
You didn't specify Blazing Aura / Quills, so the build doesn't have them.
Depending on what you're fighting against, you could drop 1-2 of the Steadfast KB IOs.

Keep in mind that you're sacrificing a lot to hit those stats. This is a very specialized build, much like AV soloing builds are generally pretty specific (re: lack AoEs). They're good for what they're built for, but doing anything else will suck.

I'd much rather have a less extreme build that fares well under a broader set of circumstances. Just my personal preference.

Keep in mind that you're sacrificing a lot to hit those stats. This is a very specialized build, much like AV soloing builds are generally pretty specific (re: lack AoEs). They're good for what they're built for, but doing anything else will suck.

I'd much rather have a less extreme build that fares well under a broader set of circumstances. Just my personal preference.

Softcapping smash/lethal resist won't be much more effective unless you've got a lot of ranged smash/lethal attacks being directed at you.

Melee defense at least has the advantage of working against multiple damage types. Of course, if you're interested in farming a specific custom enemy group (which I kind of figure you are, considering the build), aiming for typed defense over positional can actually be beneficial since custom mobs have the same attack types for ranged and melee.

they weren't going for resist, they were going for defence, BIG difference...

also the smash/lethal def will cover any melee/range/aoe attack that has a smashing or lethal component in it, as long as it's not overshadowed by a better def value that effects it,... type based def takes the best value def #, so for example if the enemy uses an attack that is part energy and part smashing damage, it will take the best value to those two types, either energy or smashing, to see if your hit by it (by the RNG), reguadless of weather it's melee or range or aoe ,.... though your pretty much screwed if you get hit with pure toxic, since there is no type defence to that

My bad on that. I'm used to only ever refering to typed resist rather than typed defense, mainly because typed defense is simply so much harder to actually get to meaningful universal levels than positional.

This is playable. My blasters do something like this, so I know from expirience that lethal/smashing +ranged gives you protection from almost everything. With the resists and heal you'd be very solid on this build.

I would have liked to put damage in lunge instead of getting the IO bonus... also I would have liked to have rippper instead of consume, but I think you'll need the recovery.

Just FYI I threw this together in a few minutes; I will likely tweak it next time I have a break. Atmo there's no kb prot, tough has 1 slot, etc.

If I give up energy torrent life is much easier hitting th SC... but I love energy torrent. Ponderous musings.

I don't like slotting quills &amp; BA with oblit; too end consuming. I also don't feel like planning around a gladiator IO (I could probably buy one on the cheap or farm for a few days and get one for 1B, but I don't really farm for inf).

You all did stellar jobs of hitting the criteria, tho.
