SD/SS Tank Positional Defense softcap
First, Purples are not as uber for every purpose under the sun. Purple with a purpose is my motto.
Second, It's easy to softcap a SD/SS tank. Looking at mine its softcapped at 41. Would have to reshuffle alil is all.
Is this a reasonable build? Any endurance problem? Will Rage overlap? Is it capped solo?

As a matter of fact, none of the purple sets give positional defense at all. As far as soft-capping you goes, every slotted purple is dead weight. Which of course is exactly the sort of thing Ohsirus is talking about.

Since you are talking at lvl 40, then lower all those set IOs to lvl 43, which would be the max you could slot at lvl 40. And Rage in your set-up would be perma but not by alot and any slow effect on you will cause it to not be so. Also, you would be required to reapply Rage as soon as its recharged no matter what else is going on. You will be sucking for end when Rage crashes especially against harder targets with extended battles.

I have tried various build but dont seems to get any working. I was planning to take out some of the skills to put in healing.

IOs edited to 40s. Steadfast already in Tough (don't intend to run with Tough on for End considersations). Anyway to improve on End and also improve Rage overlap?
Very interested in reply on softcap without Fighting Pool at 40. More interested if it is not reliant on team mates in melee range.

This makes sacrifices, and the ToD sets are expensive, and it is *not* a very exemplar friendly, and leaves only the level 50 slots left, but it gets you a well-slotted Aid Self, Soft-cap to all with none in Phalanx Fighting range, perma-rage with ~10 seconds of overlap, and a heal proc in Hurl, because it's a neat trick I picked up from working on builds for my blasters.

Well my tank is Shield/Warmace and i'm capped to all positions, and I don't have tough/weave. I have a nice mix of set IOs to get me there. I'm at work so this is off the top of my head. I use 2 Touch of death sets (up to the defense bonuse) and a Mako's Bite in my three ST Melee attacks, along with Obliteration in Shield Charge. I use Red Fortunes (6 slotted) in Battle Agility, Deflection, and Maneuvers (yes Maneuvers) for Ranged defense bonuses. I use two sets of Scirocco's Dervish in the other two AoEs, and two sets of Blessings of the Zephyer for Ranged and AoE (I think I may not have them three slotted).
Was playing around Mid Builder last night and manage to find something interesting. If I skipped Haymaker and Combat jump, I could have enuff slots to put in First Aid and at the same time have space for Tough and Weaving and also my Fire Epic Powerset.
The only issue with that is, my ST attacks will be consist of Boxing, Jab and Knockout Blow.
I am currently still trying to work out the details of this new build.

That doesn't sound good.... what are you going to do with an AV? Tickle it while KO blow recharges? You have RAGE and AAO!!! Beat the crap outta stuff!!! IO out ST stuff don't get tough/weave! You do not need it! 6 slot Gaussin's Fire Control in Rage thats 2.5% defense to all positions there. Play with MIDS slot two ST attacks with Mako's and two with Touch of Death's see where that puts you. Slot Red Fortunes in your shields and 2 slots Blessing of the Zephyer in Hover and Fly. Sciricco's and Oblits in PBAoE's you should have 2 at least.
I don't understand why everyone thinks Shield Tanks absolutely must have Tough/Weave... I ran the Storm Palace last night with no trouble Brutes and Wisps. The damage did hurt a few times when the RNG decided to poke me and laugh, but all I saw most of the time was *DEFLECTED* DEFLECTED* DEFLECTED* It was nice, and really made me feel powerful.

Is it possible to softcap a SD/SS Tank for the 3 Positional Defense at lvl 40 without using purple IOs?
