The SG badges belong to the SG not to the players.
Any player who is in a supergroup gets the badges FOR the group - but if that character quits the SG badges they may have earned for the group stay WITH the group, not with the character/player.
If you go and get the exploration badges, do them both in and out of SG mode. The other badges don't affect individuals and can't be "carried over" to a new supergroup on a character.

I thought that if you did it in SG mode, you got credit for the supergroup, but also got individual credit. I still got experience for badges I hadn't got even though I was in SG Mode. Is this not how it is supposed to work?
Yes, if you go over an exploration badge that you do not have, and you are in SG mode, you will get your own exploration badge, as well as credit towards the SG beacon (if no one had previously done so).

The personal badges and the SG badges are different badges. You can get both at the same time. Regardless of when you get them, your personal badges are attached to you and the SG badges are attached to the SG.

I always make sure anyway, in and out. I got at least one sg badge that way, knowing I'd been by the badge location before but outside of an sg.
