KB resistance for Fire/Dark
The difference between 1 and two isn't much, 1 is probably fine for 95% of PvE content.
If you're gonna go more than 1, get 4, because 4 means nothing will knock you back/down short of like 3 Fake Nem staffs.
One will certainly make a substantial difference, and you may be satisfied with the result. However, you will still find yourself knocked on occasion when facing certain foes, especially if you are on a larger team and in the thick of things. A second will eliminate the vast majority of knock issues, reducing it to a few niche situations such as Katie TF, Fake Nemeses and a few AVs. A third will basically eliminate those as well.

What about slotting Kick with 4 Kinetic Crash IOs? You get 3 points of KNB resistance and you get 2.5% S/L resistance to stack with Tough and your shields.
I am looking at doing this and adding one KNB IO on my own Dark Scrapper.

I go for 3. Acrobatics has 9 points and most sets with KB protection have 10 points. 2 KB protection IOs will give you 8 points and 3 will give you 12. I've been tossed with acrobatics so I did a respec to get 3 KB protection IOs and now, no more tossing. Except in pvp. That's easy to handle, though. Just dont go there with that alt.

I won't sign on the use of set mules. Unless you actually plan on using kick and taking it early and placing low level versions of that set in. If so, then yes. That and two more KB protection IOs and you are good to go. I would also like to add that taking the lowest level KB protection IOs and slotting them on early powers is best. That way, you have the protection when exemped.

I would take Kick and slot it for -kb early on, if you don't have much influence. Otherwise buy steadfast/karma/zephyrs, usually 2 is enough for 99% of the mobs/AV's.
I've been satisfied with one knockback protection on my Spines/Dark and my Katana/Dark. The knockbacks are few and far between. However, I mostly solo, and don't run Katies. There are certainly situations where it could get ugly.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll have to burn a respec to be sure of what was slotted and when but that's no problem since I always have any number of vet respecs laying around for each character.
Now to decide if I want to stick with CoD or go back to using CJ for my immobilze protection. I know that CoD has better numbers but I'm not all that happy with the human dust mouse look. I am pretty proud of the costume I worked up for my Fire/Dark and the whole "incognito obscura" factor is just irritating. I guess what it comes down to is how important the Stealth portion of CoD is in the grand scheme of things.

If you're concerned with stealthing through missions or accidentally pulling aggro by proximity then you might want to keep CoD. Otherwise, if you're not concerned with the above and don't mind the defense loss, then get rid of it.
I'm just now starting to dabble in the IOs and I recently purchased a Steadfast Protection KB resistance to slot in Obsidian Shield and noted that some folks wind up slotting another KB resistance IO elsewhere in their build. Is it necessary to have 2 KB resist IOs or can I get away with just one?
