Cannot connect to DBserver

I can log into the server choice page but when i try to pick a server i get the "Can't connect to DBserver"

Please add the DBserver to the server page so i can see if this is a problem you are aware of.

Oh yeah and fix the problem

How are we, your fellow players, supposed to fix the problem?

The DBserver is the DataBase server.

I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

Please do not put the output from CoH Helper or HijackThis inside the Quote tags as it removes the formatting of the output and makes it more difficult to easily see problems.

EDIT: Just so you don't think I'm just being snarky, if you look at the description under Technical Support and Bugs on the main page of the forums you will see the following:

Texas, that's like that FBI warning on VHS tapes and DVDs, and the instructions flight attendants give before a flight: Nobody reads/listens to them.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a firewall issue, with a nod to a possible ISP blockage situation. Probably will wind up having to also do the Net Info Tool, but I'll await the other logs first.

/Oh, and btw, I don't copy that FBI part, so I'm safe, and please read the safety information card. Federal regulations state that all passengers should be in their seats with their seatbelts on and their tray tables upright and locked. To fasten the seatbelts, insert the tab into the buckle, and then tighten the belt by pulling on the loose strap. To release the belt, lift the buckle. There are 6 exits on the forum, two at the front, one over each wing, and two in the back. Please take the time to find the exit nearest you, taking into account that it may be behind you. In the unlikely event we lose cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop down in front of you. If this happens, please take a mask and put it over your mouth and nose, extending the tube, and pull the straps at the sides to tighten. Put one on first before helping those who may need additional assistance. In the also unlikely event that we have to make a water landing you will find life preservers underneath your seat. If they are required, take the preserver out of the bag, unfold it, put it over your head, and put your arms through the straps. Tighten the straps and then pull the red handle to inflate. In the case it does not inflate, you may use the tube to inflate the preserver. Your seat cushion has also been designed to be a flotation device. For those passengers seated at the wing emergency exits, please read the safety card for instructions on how to operate the exit. If you do not wish to perform these actions, or you are unable to, please alert a forum moderator who will be happy to exchange your seat with someone who can perform these actions. Please turn off all cell phones at this time, we will be posting soon. Thank you for posting with boards.cityofheroes.com, and we hope you have a pleasant read.

Flight attendants give instructions? Hmmm. Guess I'll have to pay a bit more attention next time I fly.

Of course, it would be easier for me to pay attention to them if they went back to hiring Stewardesses like they did in the good old days.

Then again, I probably wouldn't be paying any attention to what they were saying due to paying attention to the effects breathing has on the female figure.

Hi folks!

Just throwing my two cents worth in here. I was having the exact same issue as the OP. It seemed to me that it had to be a firewall issue and after quite a while, I determined that it was.
My firewall was blocking all UDP traffic CoH was generating on port 7000. That appears to be the DB server. Then I was stuck after I chose a character. Couldn't connect to Map server. That appears to be on port 7005.
I customized a firewall rule to allow UDP traffic on those two ports and so far so good.
Hope this helps!

Go to Youtube and do a search for Air New Zealand Safety Video and then sort it by view count. The first one is an interesting example on how get the attention of passengers. I'm not direct linking it for obvious reasons once you see the description.

So... in the 60's and 70's the idea was to make airlines a flying version of Hooters. Got it.

Yes. Yes it was. But then something happened. They got older. And so they decided that they didn't/couldn't do the Hooters thing anymore, but still wanted to be flight attendants. That, and guys for some reason decided it'd be a cool thing to do too. And so now we got business type suits or polos. Yay progress.
