Moving from VLFG to the Architect Chat channel?

As some of you know, Issue 15 introduced a new serverwide channel, "Architect Chat", which doesn't seem to be seeing much use, partly due to not being automatically added to chat windows. Thus, I'm considering pushing for its use as a general teaming channel, as opposed to the Virtue LFG global channel. The Architect channel doesn't have an officially declared use*, and because it's so new and unused, retooling it into an unofficial teaming venue wouldn't interfere with a pre-existing use, because there is none to begin with. Furthermore, mixing AE and regular teaming would probably have the positive effect of exposing AE-exclusive players to quality official content, and vice versa.

edit:
Also, a general channel has the advantage over a global one in several ways - there is no hassle about joining, and the eventual migration issues global channels have as they reach the 2500 member cap.
What's everyone's opinion on this?

'Virtue LFG' channel is dead becasue it was it closed and everyone moved to 'Virtue LFG Alpha'. Which is very active.

Also isnt the new Arcitect Channel a global thing? I dont really care if Super Bob is LFT on another server.

If im mistaken, im sure someone will correct me.

I know, I was referring to both VLFG channels, both the original and the replacement.

I think we shouldn't change things o.o AE Chat isn't doing so hot from what I've seen. Regulated chat where you know whose coming in instead of everyone is best?

Not doing so hot in what way? Besides, Help is communally regulated, and it's pretty functional.

Yep. Since it's an open channel, it'd be a [censored] to regulate if say.. something like .. Xad went hormonal on a catgirl. That happened in VU2009 once; it took three moderators and a firehose to bring him down. Imagine if there were no mods! Where's that Twixt fella when you need him? I tell ya!

Edit: Ooo.. answer sniped! So yeah, honestly, it's your call (well anyone's call) as to using Architect. The only thing you may want to think about is how effective voluntary migration is. That's over 1500 globals yes? Virtue United has moved to VU2008 then again to VU2009 yet many globals remain in 2008. It's really about how much effort you'll place into advertising something. Me personally, I wouldn't use the Architect channel for non AE teaming calls. You never know when something will become popular and used for it's intended function. Personally, I'm hoping for a LFG/LFM channel. I've sent emails and posted the suggestion a few times. <crosses fingers>

Quinch, aren't you the main mod for Virtue LFG Alpha? It may just be your 'online times' and I have seen a small decline since AE came out but nothing major enough to try and start a new channel. I just think a lot of the talk is in Atlas Broadcast, some have just left all together and some, like a bunch of my friends, have become more dependant on their SGs and coalies for teaming since farming has become such a craze. I still use both that and the Virtue Badges 09 Channel to round out teams for missions and TF/SFs. Perhaps we just need to make the Virtue LFG Alpha channel more widely known as the "go to" channel for finding teams and forming them, though I personally don't want to see it turn into a "farm hunt".

I'll help if you need it, you know how to find me. @Madisen

Architect channel would work so then the channel would not be left to the whim of some mod that does not know their [censored] from a hole in the ground.

re: Madisen
Yep - the only mod, actually. Anyway, it's not a problem with usage, but global channel limitations. Specifically, a global channel can only hold 2500 members, whether they're active or not, so once a channel hits that cap, new people can't join, and there's no way to prune the inactive ones, which leads to migration hassles for everyone involved. A general channel doesn't suffer from that limitation, since everyone's already "in" it - it just needs to be added to the chat tab.

My issue with it, mostly, is the fact that most of the people who want to take the effort to get in the global chat tend to be really good and nice players. As such, when I'm forming a task force or team via VLFG, I know I'm getting quality people. As a second note, if it is only server wide AE channel, then I can have VLFG open for stuff going on in Virtue. The flip side if it's not server only, then I'll hear all about Protector's ITF that's going on that I have no use for.

As such, I'd much rather have the global channel.

I too like being able to use Virtue LFG Alpha from Pinnacle. Also, the Architect channel seems to be developing a use for complaining about uses/misuses of AE, complaining about complaining, and so on. It seems to be better avoided than colonized for general LFT purposes.

The game does cry out for a proper server-side LFG channel without having to use global channels to do it. Virtue LFG Alpha is a kludge, obviously, but at least it offers cross-server notification and can weed out people just interested in axe-grinding.

My gut reaction is that I hate the idea of using Virtue LFG, and although a noble effort Quinch, I don't think the effort to switch people over to the architect channel will work. If you close down Virtue LFG someone else will simply start a new channel to replace it. I don't think you will be able to get people to actually use the architect channel.

I also feel that although it doesn't have a clear purpose, it is intended for use to discuss architect related issues, and that it would be inappropriate for us to use it as the default teaming channel.

I like the idea of keeping the Virtue LFG Alpha. Like what Stormy said before, and madisen before him, it's a good source of getting reliable people, and great teammates. With AE chat, we can get anyone, from a AE50 noob (sorry if that affends anyone) to someone who could be the best Hero/Villain out there.

Either way, I wouldn't want to team with them, I find both sides of the spectrum are too chancy. Lets stay with our V LFG A community

I prefer to keep LFG Alpha. I like the high signal/noise ratio of global channels, and I have seen a fair amount of "LF bubble farm" and the like in the architect channel already. Also, using it as a regular teaming channel will absolutely get the blowhards up in arms and spamming in there about how they think it's for AE only, regardless of evidence to the contrary.

I envision a world where there is a dedicated LFG channel, like Angry_Angel mentioned
