Weird Clipping Issue

Ok... So I recently put CoH on my Girlfriends laptop (mine bit the big one) and it runs GREAT... As a matter of fact it runs better than it did on my laptop, The graphics can be turned up, no framerate drops, nothing... but I'm having a slight problem.

Anytime I zone into a mission map, I get this weird Clipping/Tearing issue, where the screen flickers and I get freaky images of other parts of the map, and even occasionally a square of said image will get 'stuck' where my mouse is, and i'll be moving around a block of the level... Can anyone give me some help on this? Cause i've tried tweaking everything about the video settings I can, and nothing seems to work.

I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Well I've tried booting it in safe-mode and everything now, but it still seems to have the problem once i zone into missions, and here is the CoH helper data

And there it is... The driver for the GMA 950 (i.e., 945G/GL chipset) is old, and you should get a newer one.

It's a laptop, which means no upgrading from that video, likely...

According to Dell, your latest driver is going to be from 5/2007... and I suspect you probably already have that. You *may* be able to get the Intel one to work, but probably not. You *may* be able to find a hacked one, but I don't recommend that.

http://support.dell.com/support/download...n&TabIndex=

However, I recommend downloading it anyway, acquiring Driver Sweeper from Guru3d, deinstalling the current video drivers, restarting in safe mode, running Driver Sweeper for Intel, Nvidia, ATI, etc video cards (doesn't hurt to be sure all video card drivers are gone, baby, gone), then rebooting in regular mode, allowing it to do whatever it's going to do regarding the 'new' hardware, then installing the newly download video drivers.

Whew. That's a mouthful...

Wow, that video chipset is really not a good choice for gaming, especially not with how high you have some of the settings.

I'd recommend lowering (substantially, then slowly work your way up one item at a time):

Physics Quality
World Texture Level
Character Texture Level

I'd also recommend turning off the following (again, tweak them up one at a time once you get things running):

Vertical Sync
Water Effects
Bloom
Shadows
Geometry Buffers

If it were me, I'd also turn off Desaturation effects as well while testing.

Yeah, that video driver is rather old. OEM's are notorious for not keeping drivers updated on laptops, and "usually" the manufacturer's drivers won't work on them without modification.

Well like I said, I had to put it on my Girlfriends laptop because mine is broken, and her dad gave her this one for free so I can't complain. But regardless the game runs fine with the graphics settings I have it on besides the freaking clipping thing. I've tried lowering all the settings, booting the game itself in safe-mode and everything. And I un-installed the driver, ran the sweeper, then installed the Intel driver, which seems to have helped, but now i have a wierder problem...

It still does the clipping thing, but only when my mouse changes... I.E. when I mouse over an enemy, or at the edge of a window (thus changing it into the little sideways arrows to re-size) or over an object... in fact now it is only clipping when my mouse has to change from the default cursor... But again it still does it /only/ when I am in a mission and mouse over something...

but then why is it /only/ in missions and /only/ when the cursor changes? If it was a graphics card that can't push the game I shouldn't be able to run it on decent specs without any framerate drop or anything

Well, not a solution.

But you could try /reloadgfx when it happens. That will unload textures, and reload the relevant ones.

No, it's a graphics card that has issues dealing with the game and the cursor overlaying it. Texas is right.

You could try adding " -compatiblecursors 1' to the end of the updater's shortcut, like shown here.

I dunno if it'll work, but it's worth a shot.
