here's a start to a build i've been wanting to do, but haven't had the money/reason to do. These bits alone i think came to around 7-800. Some of the pieces are quite adjustable like the video card and processor. the X3 720 phenom is pretty impressive chip especially for the price. Or for 20 more you can get another 200MHz by getting the X4 920.

You'll still need

those last 5 items are really optional, to taste.
You don't need anything extreme for the HDD, if you don't want, but even with a 2k budget you could get an SSD in there pretty easily, which should load anything you have on it pretty quick.
The monitor, give yourself a budget and find something you like, again even with a 2k budget you can fit in a pretty nice monitor. The newer ASUS displays really look great and are pretty stylish.
For the case, i'd reccomend a full tower, but you can do this in a mid tower without much trouble.

PS. If you were looking for something more along the prebuilt line check out Ibuypower.com they have some really nice PC's that wont rip you off like a dell of HP. I'd also look there if you wanted a laptop.
Roxy On DA...Finally!
I had to replace my old junk puter in April and I got top of the line stuff and in total paid (the parts alone were $550) $800. That was including the 25 inch wide screen monitor. It came ready to take home and plug in with Windows XP, with a Windows 7 upgrade 
I had mine custom built from a guy on craigslist. (Craigslist = awesome!) Everything was bought on newegg, and shipped. I have a lifetime warranty, and if anything ever happens I can go to him and he will fix it. I don't know much about computers, but I can tell you that I can run 3 CoH accounts without turning my graphics lower and I can run 4 accounts by turning it down a notch. And I have a pretty black and red case that has blue lights coming out of the fans and see thru side
If I could find the paper I got with the list of parts....then I would tell ya!
Snorin now that I've upgraded to a Toys R Us brand, would you like to purchase my Fisher Price computer? It can last an entire 5 minutes without DC'ing, and can count to 3.

Looking to buy a new computer, interested in some suggestions/ideas. Primary use will be gaming (cox), money isn't a huge issue...cheaper is better, but maybe a soft cap at 3,000. Thanks for your help!
