The thread name should give you the general context of this post. I've got a several billion inf to waste as I see please, and I'm trying to decide how it's going to be spent.

I enjoy making characters that are simply overpowered. I have the influence to spare, and nothing better to do than amuse myself (and others) with over the top characters.

That being said, I'm an amateur MIDS builder. While I am capable of making my own builds, I never seem to reach the numbers I'm quite looking for... and I enjoy comparing multiple builds (from multiple perspectives) to reach a final decision

I would like to make an over-blown scrapper that is capable of soloing boss ae's (or harder). I am leaning towards Spines /Fire or /Dark. However I wouldn't mind taking a look at a couple Claw /anything. That being said... def/res/regen numbers are nearly as important as dmg output numbers.

Here's the name of the game

Post your over-the-top Spine or Claw builds. Do not cut corners. I can do that.

A personal thank you to any that participate.

Generally speaking, Spines isn't a boss soloer. It can do it, but just about anything else can do the job better. If you're planning on doing some crazy amounts of AoE, though, Spines is definitely your primary. I'd probably suggest Spines/Dark as being more survivable than Spines/Fire, with the edge going to Spines/Fire on damage output.

As an overall powerhouse, Claws/Super Reflexes is very popular, and capable of some very crazy things. Claws also gives you a nice mix of single target and melee damage. Great primary, but then, they're all great.

I don't have any good Spines or Claws builds on me, but we do play with a whole lot of over the top price no object builds around these parts, so I'm sure someone will have you covered.

A current favorite for no temps no inspirations AV soloing is Dark Melee/Shield Defense. It does some freakishly high single target DPS, and Soul Drain + Shield Charge is some pretty crazy AoE, even if it's a once every other group sort of thing. Also very survivable.

For AE bosses specifically, I might recommend Broad Sword/Shield Defense instead. Parry on top of Shield Defense will give you the extremely high melee defense that even souped up AE bosses would have a hard time punching through. Shield Defense also helps boost the comparatively low damage output of Broad Sword to a pretty reasonable range.

Edit: Still a work in progress, but I'll throw up the most recent iteration of my plan for my Broad Sword/Shield Defense. The empty slots and duplicate Steadfast Protection are for some PvP uniques. It focuses more on survival than doing damage, so it's probably not exactly the balance you're looking for. A better balance for your interests might be John Printemps' price no object BS/SD build in his guide.

I built a fire/invuln to be my AE boss solo'r. If I had unlimited inf, I might have made it fire/wp or spines/wp.

I would suggest you Fire/Shield, check Iggy last movie about how he can handle a double RWZ challenge... And for an IO build John Printemps /Shield guide has several good builds for this combo.

Good luck

If you have a metric ton of money to spend, look no further then a dark melee/shield scrapper, you will do so much damage it will literally make you want to vomit. I read yesterday someone soloed a pylon in less then 6 min and had over 250 dps which is retardedly high.

Sounds like fun. I'll do a quick search, but any links?

I agree. That sounds absolutely sick, but I'm looking for something with a little more AoE. I'll keep that in mind after I finish this money sink.

Santorican here with another fantastic product, if you are looking for AoE then look no further then dark melee/shield defense! With Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, and Shield Charge, you'll put the Effect in Area of Effect!

I'm surprised no one has brought this one up...

Give all your monies to me...It's probably not as good as DM/SD or some of the other builds listed but I really like this one. It's also cheaper you could probably do two builds of give all your money to me than you could a DM/SD.

Just thought i would throw that out there. It sounds like you don't really have trouble earning the inf so why not right?

My first Billion plus build was a BS/SD, so yeah, I'm going to second it, ridiculous amounts of damage, can solo AVs easily enough (though you'll want to squeeze Aid Self in for that) and the level of AoE damage it can put out is suprisingly high.

Which is going to lead me to mentioning Werner's build misses both Slice and Whirling Sword, which are going to be a must if you head into AE for big boss mishes.

Below is my build (sort of, a respec is pending) but I've used it a few times for AE boss mishs and it is devastating,
Anyway, not perfect but here it is
(oh and you can prolly guess what goes in the empty slot on True Grit, which certainly catapults it into the 'very expensive ' range.)

Which is going to lead me to mentioning Werner's build misses both Slice and Whirling Sword, which are going to be a must if you head into AE for big boss mishes.

[/ QUOTE ]
Depends on what you mean by a must. Mine will do the job, just more slowly (i.e., bad for boss farming). But yeah, the builds I play tend to be focused at taking down single extremely hard targets without temps or inspirations and without much regard for the time it takes. They're not generalist builds, DPS builds or AoE builds. I agree that most people should at least squeeze in Whirling Sword, and quite possibly Slice.

So, I'm a little new to the scrapper world... having spent most of my time over in the tanker area.

I think the best match I've seen so far is the Fire/Shield combo. I was just curious why Spines has been muffled? Is it harder to soft cap?

The focus here tends to be AV soloing, or soloing period (not farming). Spines has the best AoE damage, and trades ST damage for it, falling way behind any other primary, which is why it doesn't get talked about much.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Spines?
Well, my current favourite Scrapper is a Spines/DA, because it has truly outrageous mob owning potential, of course, its got about buckleys chance of taking out an AV solo, still it can clean the wall in cimerora like nobodys business.
So yeah, thats why Spine is prolly rarely mentioned here, it is the king for AoE, but it's ST dmg is lacking.

PS - Yeah, I wasn't dissing your build werner, just noting that it was heavily ST oriented, and would consider at least one AoE or cone a must for any group play

I didn't think you were, and people should feel free to diss my builds regardless. And I can see how what I wrote could have looked defensive. But like you, I was trying to clarify what it would and wouldn't be good at, and to agree that most people would be better served with a different set up. Basically, we're in complete agreement.

Sadly, you cant roll a Spine/Shield... I wish it was possible, but it isnt.

/Shield has maybe the biggest potential of all scrapper secondaries, because it adds tons of damage with AAO and Shield Charge, has solid defense once it's soft cap, and very good peak survivability with OwtS slotted and running.

Sure it's not the best when you're running with SOs and 25% positionnal defense, but we're not talking about that, are we ?

Fire/ has always been the top dps scrapper primary under "most" circumstances (not talking about some "extreme" builds or case scenarios).

DM/Shield is another good alternative : you loose some AoE power though, but gain in survivability with Siphon Life. You can also near perma Soul Drain and once you manage to perma fuel it (only works on the paper because Soul Drain kills your "fuelers") its dps is unmatched.

But if you want to deal some good AoE carnage too, I bet Fire/Shield is overall a better choice.

With a top build (that is soft cap, with hasten and a good recharge), you'll get extreme ST dps and ST burst, great AoE power with FSC, great AoE burst with SC which should be on something like 27 sec rech, not more.

I recommand also building toward +regen (and +hp) rather than taking Aid Self. Having OwtS well slotted + something like 30-35 hp/sec is largely enough for most scenarios (see again Iggy 2xRWZ challenge if you need to be convinced^^).
