You're using too many keys in a section of a keyboard at a time. A keyboard can only register X number of keys per section, and it varies from keyboard to keyboard what number X is. Some it's two (rare), some it's three (typical), some it's four.

Sections are defined in more-or-less vertical stripes (following the jaggy edges of the keys) down the keyboard.

[/ QUOTE ] Your keyboard's "sections" might have different groupings. The tower beeps because the motherboard is getting a keyboard error. A different model/manufacturer might not have an issue. Some people even report changing keyboard drivers can help overcome keyboard limitations sometimes, but it's not usually the case.

I've found that the oldest, most basic keyboards are usually the most lenient about button lock. I have an A4Tech KB-720 keyboard right here and it only starts locking up at 5 buttons and over, and I can't find any self-locking groups of three buttons no matter what I try.

Then again, I haven't tried the new fancy LCD, split, wavy gamer's keyboards, so I don't know if those might be better.

It's a total crapshoot and even different models from the same manufacturer can behave differently. I had a Microsoft 'Natural' keyboard and it worked fine. When it wore out, I replaced it with the most similar Microsoft model I could find and it had the problem you describe. I had to go through THREE keyboards to get one that I could live with. The next one I bought did not have the keypress problem but it had the cursor control keys in a different pattern than I was used to (and use at work also). I thought I could learn the new layout, but it was too annoying switching layouts between home and office. (I do lots of stuff on the computer - typing text, spreadsheet work, programming - and can 'touch type' the main section, numeric keypad and cursor control section.)

At the moment, I'm using a 'Logitech Deluxe 250 Keyboard', model number Y-SAF76. After using it a few weeks to be sure I was happy with it, I bought a spare - just in case this model isn't available in a few years when this one dies.

I also had problems finding a keyboard that fit my gaming needs. I also ended up with Logitechs.

First I had a Logitech Elite Black, but then something happened to it and I replaced it with a Logitech Cordless Optical Black. The wireless seemed unreliable while gaming, and I ran the batteries down on it all the time, so I ended up using that for my old computer and finally went with a Logitech Internet Navigator that I've been using for several years now. I love it because I have quick access to several programs, folders, and other features by using the buttons on the extra top row. The most-used are the MyDoc, MyPic, CD-player controls, and volume keys.

Go find a 1984 era IBM bucklespring keyboard. Love them. And you can strafe all you want.

/just a suggestion.
//they still make them, btw.
