Dark Melee vs. Katana, which for me?

Both katana and dark melee look very fun and brutal for single target damage, which is what i need. I plan on doing pvp and pve and need a set that is fun and alright for both.

Dark Melee has -tohit which looks like it would do great stacked with maybe regeneration as a secondary. On the other hand....

Katana has -def if im correct, as well as divine avalanche allowing me to stack so defense which also may work with regeneration or resistance sets such as invuln or fire.

Any thoughts on which would be better are all welcome!

PVE both work and work great; pvp I have no clue

Siphon Life gives you extra heal basically as well as great damage so bonuses.

katana is lethal but also has as you said defense and it is more flexible in also having solid aoe damage output with lotus and flashing when in large groups

It is just a matter of preference or you could just do both

Pinnacle
Langar Thurs-Katana/SR 50; Hejtmane-DM/DA 50
Rogue Spear-Spines/DA 50; Hypnosis-Ill/Rad 50
Sir Thomas Theroux-DM/SR 50; Melted Copper-Fire/Shield 50
Byzantine Warrior-DB/ELA 50;Blade Tempo-50 DB/EA

Golden Dragonfly is also a small cone. I suggest rolling both and keeping whichever you like better after 10 or so levels.

I would ask what secondary you're wanting. If it's */SR or */Invuln, I'd definitely tell you to aim for DM/* so that you're not wasting the amazing potential of DA on a set that is already packing hefty defense. For every other set, they're rather evenly matched. Katana is probably going to be a bit more survivable (DA is friggin' awesome) and have better AoE (on teams; once you learn to use Shadow Maul, you can tear through mobs insanely fast). DM is going to simply have more fancy things you can do with it.

Honestly, any/any is a good combination for a Scrapper. Pick whichever one makes you happier.

Speaking of Katana, anyone happen to know off the top of their head what the ideal attack chain is and the amount of recharge needed?

And how does it compare to DM's chain of MG-Smite-Siphon-Smite?

GC>GD>GC>SD requires 249% +recharge in Golden Dragonfly and deals 403.5 damage in 5.412 second for 74.56 DPS.

MG>Smite>SL>Smite requires 235% +recharge in Midnight Grasp and deals 506.4 damage in 6.732 seconds for 75.22 DPS.

Thanks for all the replies and help but im still torn. looking from a PvP standpoint which would be better, dark melee, or katana considering as umbral said, any scrapper is amazing pve wise

=/ I'd actually just go with Spines if I'm making another PvP Scrapper, but since this is just to decide which to take between DM and Kat, I'd go with Kat, b/c of the difference in BU and SD =/ (I just find it a lot more easier to just pop BU before I attack xP)
