I'm updating at about 50k/sec which is well over 100x slower than usual. Downloading an update tends to be over as soon as it starts with me (I have a fast connection), the long part is applying... usually...
I wonder whats up with the update servers.
So you normally download at 5 MegaBytes per second? That's some connection you got there sport.

Actually at times it comes close to that. The fastest connection I've ever seen to the CoH downloader was right about 4mb (yes megaBYTES) per second when I was reinstalling last year. Though my normal download speed to the CoH update servers is between 1mb/s and 2mb/s.
I shoulda said roughly, but then again, nobody has ever exaggerated or made a misstype on a message board in the history of the internet before. Am I right?

For all of you having connection issues: ISP type and brand please. If it's dialup or satellite or cell phone based, there are always going to be issues. Try running multiple updaters (up to 20) to see if you get one that connects.
You might also search the forums for Ping Plotter and how to use that to ping the servers and find a bad 'hop' between you and the game servers.

I'm connected on a University campus, so not sure what the ISP is. I'm gonna try what you recommended above.

Ok, it took a while for me to find pingplotter and i'm guessing that the target name is 'cohupdate.coh.com'. Running it now but don't really know what I'm looking at. Hop #10 says "destination address unreachable". Every few seconds Hop #5 through #9 shift a little bit (as if it's retrying? i dunno.)
Please let me know if this means anything to you. I'm at a complete loss.

The university is likely not allowing the updater through. You may have to try different ports. It's in the stickies somewhere, try the 'Read This!' link below for some help...
But the likely answer is to get a different ISP, or get the universty to unblock the ports.
As far as the ping plotter issue, what you're looking for is a huge spike. For example, most of the pings are probably less than 100 (maybe... depends). But one of them might be huge, like 600 or something like that. That would be the problem child, and that's where you need to attack.
