How do they get so much influence/infamy?

You sound like a casual player and that being said don't fool yourself into thinking you're gonna get rich off the market as a casual player.
[/ QUOTE ] I disagree. The market is simply the most effective way to make tons of influence. Spend about 5-10 minutes a day, at most, and you can make million after million easily. Even if you just log on a few days a week you can still make tons of influence, it will just take longer.

This.
It gets dull because I myelf am a casual player and in the past I've gone weeks, sometimes even a month or two just spending all my limited playtime on the market, for me it was the most boring time I've ever spent on an mmo, but alas, 1 hero and 1 villain billions between them, can craft anything I need and now I'm covered red and blue side for all my toons forever!!
Simply log on, do your market stuff and play the game, before you log off go back to the market and set yourself up for your next log in, keeps your gaming experience varied and this is how I get by with all my toons now.
Good luck!!

Clearly, there's more than one way to get rich. Some farm for it, some get Merits, some play the market, or maybe a combination of the above.
The nice thing about this game is that you don't need to be rich to be effective. But if you want the cash to get nice stuff, you're gonna have to play a little harder or smarter for it.
With the new stupid prices on common salvage a couple hours in Ouro is turning quite profitable for me.
All my exp is converted into influance and all those white salvage sell for between 10,000 and 100,000.
If you want to play the market, there is the old set it and forget it strategy. I put up a bid for 10 common salvage on Saturday for 5,000 to make IOs, when I logged on tonight I found my buy order filled and found they where selling for 100,000. Had I been more inclined to make money that would have been a huge profit right there, for zero work.
During the farming blitz, I converted all my tickets to common salvage and cleaned up for weeks. Prices were even higher during the blitz than they are now.
Running task forces is (in my opinion) the best way to make money by just playing the game (i.e. no farming or playing the market). Just earn those merits and buy rare recipe rolls with them. There's lots of stuff worth several million, and a few things worth tens of millions.
Overall though, I think playing the market is the easiest way to make money. Once you know what you're doing (and have enough seed money) you can easily make 100 million per week or more spending only 10-15 minutes per day at the market.
If I was going to farm something I might do the following:
1. Play some AE missions- real ones with story, that I might like. Rate them. Send tells to my friends with the good ones.
2. Pick a category of midlevel common salvage: tech or arcane. Do this till I have around 500 tickets.
3. Create 30 of that. Store at Wents.
4. Create another 30 of that. Store at Wents.
I should have about 10 of each item of salvage. Put them up for sale at 55K each.
5. Wait a day.
6. Pull what didn't sell, eating the 5% fee, sell for 1.
7. Repeat.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
