Now here's an idea for PvP
I think this would be very difficult as the pet AI is actually tied to the current stance of the MM. I can't remember very well, but I think there was a time where pets stayed alive after you died. It may have been in CoV beta, but I remember them being aggressive upon revival, even to you.
Still, without supremacy and proper innate slotting the pets wouldn't pose much of a threat on their own anyways.
^^ Pretty much this. They'd experimented with allowing the pets to persist across zoning but the game would lose track of who the "owner" was, so they'd appear as hostile and would attack you as soon as you zoned in.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
ahh the good ole' days lol
actully pets still do stay alive and arnt hostile its called gang war ive died and had gang war finish off an av that had 1 tick of helth left it was very satisfying and when i woke back up they didnt follow me any more but they didnt atk either so its not that hard to do and yes they would be weaker without you there and not as good but thats why they follow you cuz ur thier mm and you make them stronger y else would a dozen ppl follow you inot a battle of death..now a new power that gave them vengnce when u died would be great

Gang War however aren't controllable. They aren't perma pets either. They are temp summons which stick around for X length of time then despawn. I can easily see henchmen becoming hostile to the MM that 'owns' them after zoning. Why? Because if the PLAYER gets confused all the henchmen start attacking the player.

well weve all had temp summon pets like wolfs or amy atk the team its a minor issue that got fixed it would probley happen alot at first but i dont see it 2 hard to pull off and it would be a fun addition and they should only stay around near ur body if you leave they have no reson to stay around right
Pets would not last a hot sec without their master, I doubt they would do it, but would be fun if pets went wild if you died and starting attacking all. oh and give them npc stats so they really hurt when they attack , you would not get rep or xp from this but would be fun to watch

They were like that in CoV beta. If the MM died with pets out the pets would become rogue (basically they'd attack anyone and anything near them). Luckily pets without an MM are weak to some extent, but are generally pretty annoying even as such.
I used Gang War in PvP once. Sure, they stick around after you faceplant, but they can't do a lick of good against another player, anyway.
Although, IIRC when I went to the hospital, they did teleport to me due to being out of range.

Kill the MM, kill the pets. Easy. NPCs may not understand it, but every PC does.
So let the pets live on after the necro dies. It will give the attackers something to think about. Not much, but a little more.
And no, I'm not interested in a bunch of estimates of how difficult it may be for poor old developers to implement. Why would that even enter the picture here?
Issues to work out: MM goes to hospital. MM logs. MM reappears in-zone after coming back to life. Etc.
