Patron Powers

I play a stalker db/nin and was wondering are any of the Patron Powers actually useful for this class

Particularly, Dark Blast and Shadow Meld from the Soul Mastery pool along with Waterspout and Hibernate from the Leviathan Mastery pool.

Dark Blast is a great single target attack with a fast animation. Shadow Meld will put your defenses at the soft cap (assuming you aren't there already) for brief periods of time with a relatively low recharge.

Waterspout is your "chaos" button, perfect for those situations that start to go south. Hibernate is the ultimate "time out" power that lets you fully recover before you get back in the fight.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

ok thanks but I don't see "hibernate" or "shadow meld" for any of the stalker skills =/

They're there, under Leviathan Mastery and Soul Mastery to be specific

They meant powers in the Stalker patron pools. Soul Mastery has Dark Blast and Shadow Meld, while Leviathan Mastery has Water Spout and Hibernate.

Dark Blast is a decent ranged attack with a -ToHit debuff, but it needs slots in order to do real damage. You can probably finish off running baddies with it without slots, though.

Shadow Meld is a click power that gives you an extra 20% defense for 15 seconds. For a /Nin stalker who has kept up with their SOs, that means that nothing will be able to hit you for the duration of the power. I use it as a miniature Kuji-In Restu.

Water Spout is Tornado from the Storm Summoning set, and Hibernate is, uh, Hibernate from Ice Armor.

ok I get it now.. Would you recommend taking all 4 of those? or just 2 or 3 of them?

You would only be able to take either the ones from Soul Mastery or the ones from Leviathan Mastery. Once you pick one patron pool, you can't select powers from another. If you respec your character, you can choose a different patrol pool, but could only pick powers from that pool.

You can only pick Soul Mastery or Leviathan Mastery (one patron pool allowed) and some of the powers in the set have prerequisites. For example, Shadow Meld requires you to have one other power in the Soul Mastery pool before you can pick it, which is why you get Dark Blast first.

Either set would work just fine. Personally, I would choose Soul Mastery to get Dark Blast and Shadow Meld for the extra defense. From what I know about Dual Blades for Stalkers, you don't want to throw enemies around where you can't hit them with Attack Vitals and Sweep.

...(good stuff went here)...
Water Spout is Tornado from the Storm Summoning set...

Basically true but with a couple differences.
A-The big one: It does knockup instead of knockback. It's still great for chaos but it won't scatter the enemies nearly as much as storm's tornado.
B-And this is just my opinion: It looks a lot cooler :P

ok with all of the defense toggles from ninjitsu does shadow meld really help that much? so the water spout and hibernate are both good choice? is it good just to get those 2? or are there any other from the leviathan mastery worth getting as well

Posted

Yes it does. First off, do you know how defense works in this game? If not, there are guides that you should read about it. Terms like Softcap apply and greatly influence defense based toons.
It is very hard to hit this Softcap with just the defense toggles from Ninjitsu, but Shadowmeld puts you there and way beyond it.

ok so soul master > leviathan master? or leviathan master > soul mastery?

I'll say it like this. Shadow Meld is an incredible power for Stalkers with defense-based secondaries. It's effectively a miniature Tier-9 invincible power with no crash! However, Water Spout can give extra mitigation for Stalkers whose powers don't have stuns or ToHit debuffs, and its damage is respectable when you can get it to focus on one person.

If I were you, I'd go with Shadow Meld.
