Constant crashing

I bought CoH/CoV on steam yesterday, and it's been impossible to play, since between 5 and 15 minutes of logging in I crash.

Here are my specs..
It's a laptop.

-Windows vista SP1
-Intel core 2 duo 2.5GHZ
-3GB RAM
-512MB ati 3650 mobility
-2X 200GB hard drive.

I've tried Reinstalling drivers, and direct x, still doesn't stop crashing within minutes of me starting to play...

Can anyone suggest anything at all that could let me actually play the game?

Thanks in advance

Yes. Read the stickies if you've not done so. There's one for ATI issues specifically, and then another for Vista issues specifically. And then there's this one:

Which describes a lot of other fixes and most importantly how to post up a CoHHelper and Hijack This log, which is going to be needed most by the denizens here.

Thanks!

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Read through those, None of them really suggested anything that helped, also upgraded to SP2.

I cannot redownload/ reinstall it because downloading it a first time used a chunk of my download limit.

It's also getting worse, used to last 15-20 minutes yesterday, i'd be lucky to get 4-5 minutes of play before crash today...

Can anyone else give me a clear fix, that actually works?

First, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Second, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

Those are the two programs houtex mentioned earlier that we would need.

What type of download limit do you have? Is it through your ISP or through Steam?

If it is a Steam download limit, you can download the PC Client installer from here and save it to your Desktop. When you run it, do NOT let it install to the Default directory. Instead, have it install to C:\Games\CityOfHeroes and run it from there instead of the Steam install.

If it is some other type of download limit, do you have any friends nearby that play CoH? If so, you can copy their CoH directory, put it in the C:\Games\CityOfHeroes folder I mentioned earlier, copy the Updater to the desktop (not a shortcut) and run the updater. It will want to know where to install the game, and you can point it at the C:\Games\CityOfHeroes folder you copied the files to. At that point it will merely write a couple of registry entries and should launch the game fine. The one thing you may want to do if you use this method is to delete the contents of the logs and screenshots folders.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

fine I'll download those things, and it is ISP download cap, and I have no friends so I can't use their internet...

Ok, I'm going to try to redownload the client, from the official website not steam. Only 19 hours until it's finished :/

Odd. Not all of the CoH Helper log is showing. Specifically, the parts with information on your game settings including the graphics settings.

Sad to see that Toshiba is still behind on the drivers for that model. You may want to try the Mobility Modder program to get a more current drivers. Be sure to follow the instructions on the site exactly. From what I hear that is the most common cause of problems.

Out of curiosity, who is your ISP? I want to make sure I never sign on with them and let friends know not to sign on with them if there is a download cap,

Update your ATI drivers.

You seem to be running the 8.5/8.6 cats.

Try to get updated to the newest cats, or at least any catalyst version above 8.10.

You may the need the help of the Mobility Modder, its a program that takes the regular desktop version drivers of your card and makes them compatible with lap tops.

Mobility Modder

Follow the directions on the page, and download the proper desktop drivers for your card from ATI to use with the modder so it may convert them for use in your lap top.
