Fire/Kin Defense Question.

Hey everyone, my questions is pretty simple I guess. Just wanted to know the advice of more experienced players regarding the ancillary power sets. Which one is better Fire or Stone, defense wise ?

Stone gives +Defense (Stone Armor)

Fire gives +Resist (Fireshield)

Depends what you want to be doing with your Fire/Kin (you said "which gives better defense?" but I assume you mean that to say "which gives me more survivability?").

Stone. Technically fire doesnt give any Defence at all, to the extent that defence is a specific in-game mechanic and fire's shield is based on another in-game mechanic called Resistance.

On a lesss nitpicky note, however, the defence based shield is generally of greater value because it applies to any attack that uses enough of that damage type to have that discripter, and also because it will aply to any mezz effect that has that descriptor. Also this defence based shield will stack with the small +def to everything bonuses you recieve from powers such as Hover, Combat Leaping, and Maneuvers.

Also, Earth has Earth's Embrace, which is easilly the most powerful self-heal available to controllers and also can easilly raise your hit points to the cap (around 1600 or so) while it lasts.

Finally, Earth has Fissure, which knocks down enemies and deals them a stun (which stacks with the stun from Flashfire), and also Seismic Smash, which can hold a boss in a single application - it thereby increases the amount of damage you mitigate actively by way of control.

Fire is not about defence, its about damage. This is something it provides extremelly well. The quesiton is whether you need more damage on your character, or more survivability. If you are Fire/Kinetics, i tend to suspect the latter.

Is there any place where I can understand how defense and resistance work ? And maybe what mezz is ? I want to start playing with numbers on my powers but the first thing is that i`d like to know how those number work on each power. Like how much defense is enough, and what kind of defense , and so on ...

It really depend on if your gonna team or go solo. i solo alot of missions on my Fire/Kin/Fire with no problem. he is 3slotted with a def IO and has no problem staying alive. But then again, i have a system everytime i go out and fight. if you are a Flashfire user.... you can Flashfire, FS, Fireball and imps do the rest. heal if nessecery. after that its easy.
