When i am in a AE mission, and others also, sometimes you have to go. Wife aggro, baby aggro, falling asleep, work calls, or you just dont feel like playing any more. i usually say " guys thanks for team but i got to go!" and log. i just found out that is wrong way to do it. that will prevent others who join team in your place from coming into mission. or if you just want a new alt on mission he want be able to get in.

The right way of doing it is to quit mission before logging out. That way others or a alt can get in. I apologize to everyone who cussed me out when i left a AE task force or went to get a alt and could not get a new player in without restarting mission. i just didnt know till some guy told me who's team i was on. hope this helps someone else. Now the few good team leader you can invite me again lolol.

Is it the same on "regular" teams? Logging prevents adding a replacement?

no the problem with AE mission is that they work like the TF. Meaning the group is locked together, even if someone DC or leaves without quitting.

The difference is that with AE if someone quit you can replace him, but if someone DC or leave without quitting you can't.

There is a "hidden" team cap of 8 players. Something that is semi exploitable.

And AE team does work like TF-Lite mode where you can add and remove players up to 8. A player that logs but does not quit is not removed from the list and counts against the team size. If the team size grows beyond 8, strange things happen (different instances of the same mission are created, etc..). When a player quits the team, they are removed from the list and no longer count to the max of 8.
