I ran a dark/dark scrapper for a couple years before the sets were made available for tankers. I rarely touch my scrapper now. My tanker is dark/dark/fire. I run 9 toggles on her, with no end issues.

Build or it didn't happen. Every time the general consensus is that something is "X" then assuredly someone comes along and says, "I never have a problem with X. I've been doing X just fine and with Y as well." So all of us must be incompetent buffoons because we can't think outside the box and get obvious IO's and use standard slotting and Frankenslotting to combat endurance issues. Mkay. I want to see how you run 9 toggles on a DA/ and not have ANY endurance issues. And standing around not attacking doesn't count.

You can't make a claim like that when most ppl are on the opposite side of the fence and then tell us you won't show us. That stinks. Build or it didn't happen. I'm tired of people basically telling us we're inept for not knowing how to do something they claim to do sooo well, and then not be willing to pony up the proof. Prove it. Prove it I say! I started a dark/mace some time ago and while it's not my main focus at the moment (trying to get a villain finally to 50), it's keeping me entertained nicely (26 currently). It's not the awesome build of doom for sure but it serves its role on teams

The synergy is pretty nice between both sets and while endurance IS a problem at the moment, as you said, it's nothing that IOs can't fix.

The start was slow but it's getting better with every level, which is nice in my opinion.

Dark Armor is really in pain with energy damage. I remember playing a DA brute back when they RWZ was more popular and almost dieing every time I jumped in for the alpha.

It was one of the few high-40s characters (which I had several accolades for) that I actually deleted.

It is good against exotic damage types and average/bad against common ones. I can't remotely see it being a good reliable tank if you are only playing one. If you are playing a bunch of tanks though, and want to have one in the closet for the occasional psi enemies, it would be fine.

[/ QUOTE ]

IO's can pretty much cover up the Energy damage hole via defense. As a result, energy damage is no where near as big a pain as it used be.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you slot your armors with 4-slot Reactive Armor and 4-slot Kinetic Combat in your melee attacks and combine with combat jumping, weave and shadow of darkness you can soft cap.

I love my dk/dk but I too have been considering making a new dark tank with either SS, mace or stone.

IO's solved Dark Armors endurance issues from Issue 9 on wards. I've spoken about this many times on the scrapper forums. I run 9 toggles on my DM/DA scrapper with no endurance issues: DE,OS,MC, DS, CoF, Hover, CJ, Tough, Weave. The guide in my signature explains the how and why. All the Dark Armor advice there will hold true for tankers as the endurance costs are the same.

I'm not really understand why you are reacting so strongly to G. Squirrel. The resolution to Dark Armor's endurance issues is nothing new. There is no mystery behind it. It's been discussed many times since Issue 9. When I get home, I'll be happy to post my DA/DM build that has no enurance issues, with out Dark Consumption.

God, I must sound like Desmodos' fan boy but yes, it's true. My dk/dk tank is proof that you can take the set and NOT have end hog issues, even while running 9 toggles and attacking and using Dark Regeneration and still be soft capped.

i agree with the end issues...i sunk a boat load of recov bonus's in my fire tank and i have more recov then wp tanks so i was actually able to drop consume from it all together.

gotta love those i.o sets

I'm assuming that's not taking into account the fact that Scrappers are more efficient with attack enurance.

Well, I specified the Dark Armor info....although you could make a case regarding Death Shroud,...but that would hold true for any attack shared between Scrappers and Tankers.

Is Dark Armor viable with Super Strength? I was having a discussion with a friend about it yesterday and he said no way. He said the end crash from both Hasten and Rage would be to much to over come even with IO sets. We want to try and do this without conserve power.

After some arguing we decided that it might be doable on a tank but no way on a brute. I know this is the tank forum but is this possible for either one, or maybe one and not the other? Thanks for the advice in advance.

I have 2 builds. They aren't directly on point being a Brute and a Scrapper but the slotting and power selections can be switched around for a Tank equivalent. I stand corrected on my Brute build. It only runs about 5 toggles in it's current form.

The Scrapper is still Valid with I believe 10 toggles. Yup 10. Quills, CJ, Tough, Weave, DE, MC, OS, OG, DS, and CoD

I have a SS/DA brute at 49. I made him to see if it would work, and its a great combo, IF you build him right. I'll put it up when I get home.

One thing that always troubled me about DA for a Tank- Dark Armor trades some def/dam res for pulsing status effects (stun or fear or both.) Since those effects pulse, aren't Alphas especially brutal?

Yeah, I have a DA/SS tank that is really quite sturdy. I run a Numina's unique which helps the end quite a bit. The Rage crash is quite manageable really. I run nine toggles with the /Fire ancillary and find it to be verysturdy. Built for defense and have 30% to all damage types and 36%-37% to energy. It's great to have Footstomp (up every 10s) followed by Fireball and hammer away on the bad guys while the team mows them down. Get your +END accolades and you should be fine, probably do not need the Numina's but it helps keep my blue bar above half perpetually. Carnies are your bread and butter - just enjoy all the arcane salvage and make some dough.

Cheers
