GEFORCE 6150SE and Coh/COV

hey I'm sory if this is elsewhere but I wanted to get a friend of mine into coh/cov so I used the system requirements lab and it said that the video card was the only thing that failed. Now I looked at the stats and everything is normal so I was wondering does anyone use the GeForce 6150SE or know someone who uses it. Is there any known issues with it.

The SECOND number is the really important one on geforce cards... make sure that second digit is at the very lowest a 6 or higher...

ok but as going by system requirements lab none of what is needed for the game (vertex shaders, video memory, etc) all are within lines to play this game a few far surpassing it so I want to know if theres driver issues, etc that would keep them from having an enjoyable experience with the game.
As the following all are in line or surpasses the game recommoendations:

Video RAM: Required
Video Card 3D Acceleration
Video HW Rasterization
Video HW Transform & Lighting
Vertex Shader
Pixel Shader

Short Answer: You might be able to run it, but it's a very low-end graphics chip. You may wanna check with tech support.

Long Answer: The 6150 SE is not a proper graphics card at all, it's really a motherboard with an integrated graphics chip. That is your problem.

Now. Strictly speaking, City of Heroes/Villains does support the GeForce 6-series, and it can run on integrated graphics machines - it supports some Intel chipsets, for example.

All the same, a GeForce 6150 SE may be pushing it. I'd recommend checking with tech support, or simply installing the client to give it a shot.

Personally? My guess is that you might be able to run the game, but your friend might need to turn a lot of graphics settings down - especially if he doesn't have a lot of RAM in there either. But I really can't say for sure, because I have zero experience with the card in question.

I will say that you don't need an X6XX+ card for this game - I strongly disagree with Renardine there. I'm playing on max graphics settings with GeForce 9500 right now, and the other machines I've installed CoH on generally have had worse. Really, how much RAM you have matters more.

yes I use I use a 8400 GS on max settings with no problem atleast until I lent sold some ram to a friend who has the same computer. Thats why I'm not completely sure how to take the system requirements lab result as it states it fails but gives no reason. The minmum stats for the list given before were all surpassed or on par.

I've used tech support before on a computer I had previously I was only given the answer that it was not a recommended video card and that video card with a few tweaks played it on reasonable settings for a 4 year old vid card.

Yeah - RAM is the real issue in improving performance. But you do need to clear that minimum graphics hurdle to get it to go in the first place.

Like I said, the GeForce 6-series is explicitly on the list of supported video cards/chipsets, so I figure it's worth a shot at least.

I don't have my PC (on my PDA) to check, but if it is just a graphics chip builtin to the motherboard, I haven't seen one that is a proper graphics solution for gaming. The good things is that mobo manufacturers seem to realize this also and without an exception that I know of they provide the slot(s) for a proper graphics card.

I build my own systems and from what I do know, you will be very disappointed if you are even able to run the game on a builtin graphics solution. If I am not mistaken even an nForce mobo wiill have pipeline problems where the speed is going to be a factor. It's generally a combination of chipset, RAM, and BUS in that order that affect how well a graphics card solution works in gaming, and generally the BUS for a builtin just isn't up to snuff. That and the drivers may be the problem you are having with the card failure.

But like I said, you can probably find something to drop into the graphics slot that will outperform the builtinsignificantly for relatively cheap.

In depth solutions can be better addressed by the guys in the Tech Forum.

I think the question is not whether the game will run well - we know it won't be very good, even if it works. The question is whether the game will run at all.

Annnnd...it might, insofar as the 6-series is supposedly supported. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that the 6150 SE is a motherboard integrated chip thingy rather than a proper stand-alone card. So yeah...

I've used that card with this game, while the 9800 I'm using now is much prettier, it certainly is more than playable. I also was running a scant 1 gb of ram.

Perhaps I should not have been so brief... I guess I recommend a second digit of 6 or more... I did not mean to imply the game would not run on anything lower...

The number system can be confusing. Basically. the first number is what series chronologically, so 7 series, 8 series, etc. The next number tells you how it compares to cards within the series
1,2 = very low end
3,4 = low end
5,6,7 = midrange
8,9 = high-end

Then the last two numbers are either 00 or 50. The 50 usually just means there was a small revision that did not warrant an entire new number. Now since the second digit only compares within a series, you will find that the high-end of a series will compare to the midrange of the next. So for instance 6800=7600, 7600>7300 therefore even though "6,800" is a smaller number than "7,300", a 6800 card is better.

Lastly, the suffixes go (roughly) GTX > GTS> Ultra > GT >GS > (nothing) > LE
I hope that helps!
