Looking at a few different laptops for gaming, some refurb.
Around $500

All have different graphics cards, any inside knowledge on wading through appreciated

1. Asus X83VB-X1, 14.1in Notebook C2D 2.0GHz 4GB 250GB DVDRW - with NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics 512 MB.

2. Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 Gaming Laptop
nVidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra graphics card

3. MSI GX610 15.4" Gaming Laptop AMD TL50 1.6Gz/ATI HD2600
ATI Radeon HD2600
Video Memory 256MB DDR3 VRAM

4. MSI 15.4" GX610 Neo Edition Notebook Computer, AMD Turion 64x 2 TL50 1.6 Ghz / 512kb x 2 Cashe,
with ATI Radeon HD 2600/256MB DDR3

5. Dell Inspiron 1720. It comes with a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz processor, Ample 3GB Memory, Huge 17 inch wide LCD Screen, and 256MB DEDICATED Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT

right now leaning towards #1, but any/all inputs welcome...hard to know what real difference, if any...

I think that the 14.1 in screen would drive me nuts on #1. I have a 15.4" on the one I use and think that is a tad too small running the game and will definitely go for a 17" on my new one next year.

I have 2GB of RAM and an x600 ATI card with 64MB (I think) memory and CoH runs fine on it. I just tweaked a few settings and while it is not as pretty as others see, it works for me. YMMV.

I'd lean toward #5, personally. #1 has a pretty small screen, and the graphics card is kinda lackluster. Out of all the laptops listed, #5 seems to me to would have the best graphics and best overall performance.

EDIT: Found a neat little Heirarchy Chart over at Tom's Hardware showing the mobile chipsets. Looks like the 8600M GT and Mobility HD2600 are about on the same level, and the 9300M GS is significantly worse.

I would lean toward #5 as well.

I have an older Everex XT500T with dual core AMD, 4GB RAM, Vista, 17" wide screen, and an nvidia GeForce Go 7600GS and it plays CoH fine. I can comfortably run 2 instances of CoH with only a small drop in settings. 17" is nice.

Not mine. Like I said, the 8600M GT is on par with the HD2600, but Nvidia tends to play nicer with this game. It also has a better processor than 3 and 4, and plenty of memory. The Go 6800 Ultra in #2 is similar to the 8600M GT, but it's two generations older. Usually better to go with the newer card.

Also, don't forget how nvidia names/numbers their graphics cards.
First number indicates product gen, but the second number is the one to look at for horsepower. So comparing #1 and #5, I think you're better off with the 8600 over the 9300.
