Gravity and her power Lift

There's seems to be a lot of changes comming down the line for our closest villain counterpart the dominator. There is a general buff to damage for them and most of the changes increase their assault secondary which is a good thing and has no direct or indirect effect on us controllers. However, one change does seem out of the ordinary and has helped rebalance Gravity dominators and i quote TheOcho,

[ QUOTE ]

Gravity Control
<ul>[*]Lift: Increased this power’s damage scale from .8 to 1.32.

[/ QUOTE ]

We don't have an exact reason as to why they've increased Lift's damage, but wouldn't this imply that Gravity in general needed a damage increase in Lift for balance purposes? Gravity has always had an obstical with its main controll power gravity distortion, where the hold would cancel out all Knock Up, Knock Down, and Knock Back powers. This means when an enemy is held Lift essentially becomes a purely damage power and its controll portion is ignored. Doesn't this power than deserve a slight increase in damage? And the old arguement arises as well; why does Mind's Levitate have substantially more damage for essentially the same power? Now we have yet another arguement; Why does the dominator version of Lift do subtantially more damage. As it is Gravity is one of the weakest damage sets in the controller line up overall and especially at higher levels while offering mediocre controll when compared to the other sets. If we have described Gravity as the single target controll set, then we should let it stand out by rebalancing Lift like it was done for the dominator version.

So i argue that with the above reasons, Gravity for controllers deserves a slight damage buff for the power Lift.

I suspect it was raised to bring it on par with Mind Control's Levitate power. Levitate had been doing more damage than Lift since its inception. This should even out the powers, which is good considering their pretty much clones of one another.

They'll get to it around the time they nerf your equivalent of fire/psi.

Last I'd heard, the Dom changes weren't expected to make it in until after I15 actually went live? Glad to see this is happening ahead of schedule! This is where Beta actually begins, as far as I'm concerned. I'll transfer the most current versions of my Mind/Psi and Plant/Thorn over to test as soon as I get home tonight.

[/ QUOTE ]

They were not supposed to. However, schedule conflicts basically meant it was now or never* so, I chose to go with now.

* "Never" being an indeterminate period extending between now and I17.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think now is better than never for a simple and well deserved buff like this one for controllers.

I also think they are going to do more grav/ changes (since it's complained about so much and it barely got changed) so I'll keep an eye out for those.

I wonder if the buff to Lift effects singularities Lift? can anyone test this?

Lift was nerfed near the start of the game for fear Grav Controllers would do too much damage with propel. The power hasn't been looked at since but I have always agreed that Grav lift should do equal damage.

I wanted to bump this, as I am hoping to say goodbye to Propel forever!

Lift already had better DPA than Propel. The new damage scale, if applied, would bring it up to Fire control (Char & RoI) levels, maybe a bit higher. W/containment, that's outdamaging many blaster T1 & T2 blasts.

Nothing wrong with that

No, that's not what I'm asking. What I'm asking is, of the three powers in Dominator primaries that are mainly intended for damage dealing, why did only one of them get a damage increase? Frankly, I don't expect the players to know.

[/ QUOTE ]

Possibly because the three powers in Dominator Primaries which are intended for damage dealing are not intended for dealing the majority of a Dominator's damage. Plus that they are shared with Controllers. (Where they do deal the majority of his damage pre-pets)

I don't think Lift was changed because Dominators needed more damage, I think Lift was changed because there was an obvious inconsistency between Lift and Levitate. But we have yet to see if this change will carry over to Controller, or even if it will remain as is.

[ QUOTE ]
They all did. One also got normalized.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is also true. They all got a damage boost because all Dominator attacks got a damage boost. Well, outside of Domination. (And even then the damage went up a little bit)

[/ QUOTE ]

The above is not entirely true. On test Controller Lift is not doing the Levitate's damage.

YEAH GRAV IS gOOD NOW.

actually... i saw that coming, it's more like a bug fix, lift does less damage than levitate with the same animation. some (guy) put in the wrong activation time into the real numbers thingy.
