"This account is already logged in" - No it's not!

For the last week or so, on both of my accounts and my girlfriend's account, sometimes when switching characters, I will get the "This account is already logged in." message, even though I just logged out. Yes, I waited out the countdown, it always happens while in the same client I just logged out (to login screen) on. On at least one occasion, it did this after I switched to my other account (which wasn't logged in before I switched), and my girlfriend had it happer to he , and after she clicked "ok" and tried to log in a second time got the same message, but successfully logged in. on the third attempt.

Nobody else has our account info. All three accounts are /gfriended with each other, and most toons on the accounts are on Victory with in the same SG. There are no new toons showing up, no sign that a different server has been selected, and no changes to the existing toons.

Because of this, I think it's just some kind of lag issue, but we are unable to reproduce it reliably, so we can't even go elsewhere to test and see if it's just our router.

I'm not too worried about getting a fix, since it's not too common. But if the problem is server-side, people should be made aware, or otherwise someone's going to think their account got hacked and panic.

Yeah a few people have already made posts worried about their account. Like you said, most of the time it's no big deal.

I've had it happen myself, but as long as I JUST logged out, there isn't anything to worry about because you can't be logged in twice anyway. There is no chance somebody else logged on in 10 seconds and did anything. lol

However, if you are offline for an extended period of time, it still may give you the same message.
If you look at your global friend list and see people "online" but without a server (shard) listed, those people are also affected. It seems nothing will kick the account offline until it's logged back in again.

It seems to do this almost any time you crash out of the game. The server says you are still online, but you no longer have a location. It has also done it to me if I clicked "quit to desktop" but loaded another client quickly enough to get back in before the other character was logged off by the server. Sometimes I wonder if clicking "Exit now" actually interrupts the character into not logging out, but still closes the client anyway.

That's all I have on this so far. lol

This is a completely different issue and has nothing to do with the OP's concern. If you log out without quitting your team, it may display you on global lists for a while. It doesn't mean they'll get the 'already online' message or that you can send them a message.

As the OP describes, sometimes the game will think you're still online, presumably due to connection issues while you were counting down. More than once, I've been able to successfully send a tell from one character to another on the same account. At least, it seemed successful to the sender. Obviously I didn't receive it on the other character. SG lists and the search window also indicated the other character was online.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree I made a mistake in saying "those people are also affected", because as you pointed out, that side-effect can happen other ways as well.

I've gotten the "already logged in" message after logging back in hours after crashing out, so I assumed I would have been showing as "online" the whole time also. Without using another account to check first, I really don't know, but that's how I made the connection. I was just trying to say that you can get that message after a long period of time as well, so it's not always something to worry about. That's all.
