BANGKOK, Thailand (BNO NEWS) -- "Kung Fu" and "Kill Bill" star David Carradine was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok on Thursday, a U.S. State Department official told BNO News. He was 72-years-old.

Carradine had been in Bangkok since Tuesday to shoot an upcoming movie called "Strand". A U.S. State Department official said that Thai officials had notified the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok that Carradine had died but further details were not immediately released out of consideration for his family.

Thai police officials, however, say that Carradine failed to show up when he and his film crew were supposed to dine at a Thai restaurant on Wednesday but the film crew assumed he took a break because of his age.

On Thursday, a hotel maid found the star dead in a closet when she opened his suite at around 10 a.m. local time. There were no visible signs of a struggle but reports are now emerging that the actor may have died as a result of a sex-game.

Meanwhile, Thai police have taken back their position that Carradine likely died as a result of a suicide. According to the Bangkok Post, the actor was found naked, curled up inside the wardrobe with one end of a shoelace tied around his [censored]and the other end fastened around his neck.

Both of his hands were bound with a cord which was also tied around his neck, an unnamed police officer told the newspaper. It is believed Carradine died some 12 to 24 hours before he was found by the hotel maid.

Forensic experts have also reportedly found a footprint on the bed which did not match the shoes worn by the actor. There was also a glass of water in the room and experts are checking to see if the drink had been tampered with.

Official information surrounding his death remains sketchy at this time.

On June 3, 2009, Carradine was found dead in his room at the Park Nai Lert Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The initial police investigation indicated that Carradine had hanged himself using a cord of the type which is used with curtains. Circumstances suggested that the death was a suicide.

His manager told FOX News that it is believed the actor died of natural causes.

Carradine, 73, was staying in Bangkok while shooting a movie. The film crew became aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant yesterday. When a producer went to his room, he discovered that the actor had died.

Kung Fu and Kill Bill star David Carradine was found hung in a hotel room in Bangkok on Wednesday, Thai police said.

"Kung Fu" and "Kill Bill" star David Carradine was found hung himself in a closet in a hotel room in Bangkok on Wednesday, Thai police said.

Police believed he committed suicide.

Carradine, 72, was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and stayed at a Suite Room 352 of the Park Nai Lert Hotel on Wireless Road since June 2.

The film crew were aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant on Sathorn Road on June 3.

Carradine did not show up at the dinner and the team could not reach him. They assumed that he took a rest because of his age.

It was a hotel's maid who opened his suite on Thursday at 10 am only to find Carradine in a closet. He was described as behind half naked.

Police investigation showed that he hung himself with a rope, the kind that is used with curtains.

Police said he was dead for not less than 12 hours and found no sign of fighting and assaults.

Kung Fu Man

Aside from Quentin Tarantino's twopart "Kill Bill" in 200304, Carradine was perhaps best known for his role as the fugitive halfChinese Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s easternwestern TV drama "Kung Fu". He also starred in Martin Scorsese's "Boxcar Bertha" in 1972, portrayed folksinger Woody Guthrie in "Bound for Glory" in 1976, acted in Ingmar Bergman's "The Serpent's Egg" in 1977 and costarred with half brothers Keith Carradine and Robert Carradine in the 1980 western "The Long Riders".

His father was the noted actor John Carradine.

In Thai cinemas, Carradine was recently seen as a martialarts guru in the Rob Schneider comedy "Big Stan" and as a perverted elderly Chinese mobster in "Crank: High Voltage" starring Jason Statham.

So, can we decide on a story here? Was he 72? 73? Suicide? Natural causes?

At this point I'm starting to wonder if the man even existed in the first place...

[/ QUOTE ]

My guess about the age discrepancy is that some lazy idiot reporters did the math based on this birthyear (2009-1936 = 73) without doing any additional research to determine whether he had his birthday yet this year (which he hasn't, he was born on Dec 8th, so he's 72).

Regarding the suicide, we probably won't know anything concrete until we hear an official statement about the matter. I really don't trust reporters who use unidentified sources until something more solid surfaces. Whatever the case though, it's sad to hear.

Sad that he died; sadder still that all indications are that he was the agent of his own demise.

I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever seen or heard that exact phrase. I suspect it will be the only.

None =/

Google is my friend though!

The Latin phrase de mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum est is usually shortened to de mortuis nil nisi bonum or sometimes just nil nisi bonum. It is variously translated as "No one can speak ill of the dead," "Of the dead, speak no evil," or, more literally, "Let nothing be said of the dead but what is good."

I don't mean this disrespectfully at all, but someone has to say it... he finally took the pebble from the hand...

I always wondered what Kung Fu would have been like if Bruce Lee had done it, as planned, but I did enjoy what I saw of the show with Carradine... was a very soft, gentler side that I don't think would have been there with Lee.

If Bruce was in it like he was supposed to be, I imagine I actually would have liked that show.

This is really awful. I was shocked to hear the news, and the mixed reports are a bit distressing. I hope the actual story comes out.

I always liked David Carradine. I grew up watching Kung Fu and really enjoyed his work in Kill Bill.

This sucks.

A. I was kidding.
B. The translation is "speak only good of the dead," or near literally, "of the dead speak none but good."
C. See A
