What is a dual build? And other questions

I have been back in the game for less than a month (gone for about 1000 days) and alot has changed. Here are some questions I have been wondering about:

1. What is a 'dual build' I keep hearing about... it seems there is a third pool or something people effectively double up their skills in a way as to serve two purposes? Either way I'm confused.

2. Arcs or contacts... at various points at the lowbie levels you have a choice of 'find out more about the skulls' or 'infiltrate the Thorns hideout'... do these choices have an impact? What should I choose and base my decision on? I've never figured this out. Is it flavor or is there a good reason to go one way or another when a contact offers up a choice?

What are the de-facto 'best fan sites' to look at. I assume there is a wiki (I think I went there the other day) but in my experience with MMOGS, alot of fan sites will get outdated. Who keeps up on their stuff in the CoX universe?

Thanks!

Nope, Only one time I think picking an Arc will have a Impact and that is Patron Power, and that only impact what badge you get now.

Go to the site in my signature, and bookmark it. Search on any question you may have (like "Dual build.") It's good to keep around.

As for this - dual builds are just what they sound like. Alternate builds on the same character. For instance, I have a Dark/Thermal Corruptor that has a Solo build (full primary, almost nothing from the secondary, with room for "flavor" like the Presence pool with all my extra choices,) and a Team build (leaning more heavily on the shields and buffs in the secondary.)

To make, or switch between them, just go to any trainer.

Same site, "Story arcs." You just get more in game info and story bits.

We have some dedicated players who keep the Wiki very up-to-date. if you go there today using the link M_B gives you in his sig, you will see that the most recent update was just a week ago when new stuff for testing was loaded to our Test Server.

A good site that links a bunch of tools, including the Wiki is the COHTitan Network at

http://www.cohtitan.com/

Another good site that stays up-to-date is Badge-Hunter at

Welcome to the game!

Although we have given you research tools, please come back if you have more questions or if you just want to talk about game stuff in general....

In answer to your second question:

After a short time you should be able to decipher what type of mission a contact is gonna give you by its descriptive text: hunt, door mish or talk to. When given a choice, I will steer away from Hunt X mishes and, depending on travel power or mood, may not take a Talk To. Some contacts have multiple arcs and/or a series of mishes. Depending on which mission you choose, you may have to wait to get a specific arc. The Wiki should steer you towards which mission is the lead into any story arc.

Basically many contacts have missions that are part of a story arc and missions that are stand-alone missions. Usually when I've noted seing this is with a contact in the middle of their arc. One mission is just one of their stand alone missions while the other continues down the arc. About the only consequence of choosing one over the other is that one you will continue down the arc, the other you won't. You should be able to come back to them later unless you outlevel the contact, which he will stop with the stand alone missions, but if you've started the arc then it'll stick around. I think.

To figure out which is which, it can be tough. The description may make it obvious or it may not. Best resource is the wiki that others have discussed on this thread.

Note: when you use the Dual Builds function the first time, after you finish "re-leveling" yourself back to current level, all your slots will be empty. Each build is independent of the other. So the enhancements you have slotted in your first build stays there. You will need to buy or otherwise, get a hold of a batch of new enhancements.

Note: there's a 15 mins wait between changing from one build to the next.

In many of the arcs, the missions associated with them now have the arc title above it, in the format of (Mission Title - Part whatever)

I don't think all of the arcs have been updated like this yet though.

Awesome info folks - it clears up alot - between the data here and on the wiki, I am set.

Now if only I could quit rolling characters and devote myself to leveling... this game is hell for alt-itis hehe.
