EM/ELA Build advice.

Ok here's the build I've been working on for the last few nights. I made this Brute over a year ago and got him to 40 before I took a break, now I'm trying to salvage him since the EM changes.

I'm kinda on the fence between Tough vs Aid Self. This character always has a Sonic/Therm Corr following him around for healing. Plus I can rarely if ever get Aid Self off even with 2 interrupt redux.

I kinda focused on getting all of my resists into the 40% or higher range without using Power Surge. (save toxic of course) My last power selection is a throw away because of slotting issues. Anyway, I'm looking for some thoughts on it.

I think aid self gives more mitigation than tough does

You can take both, just drop the last 2 powers. Your "throw away" power would be Aid Other.

I could.. but then I wouldn't get FA which is why I went for Mace Mastery to begin with. Even then I would more than likely be force to take tough at 49 (as taking Aid Self there would only allow 4 slots max) which means I might as well not even take the power to begin with. imho of course.

Take power sink last or something. It is possible. Drop the accuracy from Whirling hands. Drop 2 slots from Health.

You can make it work.

I've never taken FA due to the huge end cost. I guess if you intend to PVP it might be alright but YMMV.

I'm not sure what the point of FA is in the first place; you can get better performance with a Kismet in Combat Jumping and global +accuracy bonuses ever since it was tweaked. I'd much rather fill the spot with a high DPA attack like Gloom, and something that'll help me stay alive better without requiring many slots like Darkest Night.

But, to each their own.

Well.. things have changed alot since I last played and worked on the character. It is funny you mention the kismet unique, as it dropped last night for my Stalker.

I'll look over it. I imagined this build would have survived better though. I'd hate to hear the responses to the build my SM/FA uses.

Version 2
Dropped:
Web Envelope, Focused Accuracy, Recall Friend
Added: Stimulant (for helping the Corruptor), Aid Self, Weave
Also changed some slots around.. I'm still iffy on the slots in Boxing though. The recharge set bonus is nice but not sure if I could get away with moving more around again.

A few things I see (nice build by the way):

1) Weave isn't necessary unless you want the bonusses. The defense numbers are too low overall. If you're going to keep it go with 3 red fortunes and 1 lotg 7.5 unique. It's only 200 merits at the vendor. If you drop Weave you can take a patron power. Or maybe drop Weave and Whirling Hands and you can take back your Focused Accuracy. I am in love with Darkest night however.

2) You ran into the same problem I did on my EM/ELA -- you're at 4 power pools. I went Hasten/SS. The +recharge is nice and you want those hard hitting EM attacks firing off as much as possible. You can buy a jetpack to get over walls.

3) Slot a blessing of the Zephyr Knockback protection in SS. Maybe slot a Karma Knockback protection in a defense power or a Steadfast Knockback protection in a Resistance power. This is nice for those times you're off the ground like when fighting Hami in the LGTF.

4) Power surge doesn't need a resistence IO. Look at the Advanced totals. You're capped at 90% resistences without it.

5) You also don't need 3 slots in Health.

6) I wouldn't go Impervium Armor for the Resistence IO. Go with any of the other 3 that give +HP. By the end of it you'll have 100+ HP. Defense isn't going to mean a lot with an ELA. You can still slot the Impervium Armor Psi Resist tho.

So you can move those slots around elsewhere. Put a 5th slot in Whirling Hands (swap Weave and Whirling Hands) and go with 5 Stupefy for another 6.25.

I'm going to be respeccing my EM/ELA brute (he has a real old build) so I can take the LOTG Uniques out of him .

I just don't play him enough.

In the end just have fun with it, looks like you're on the right track.

Good luck!

I keep seeing people mention you don't need 3 slots in Health. What changed? Are 2 slots too much for an extra 23% regen now? I have debated on trying for the healing uniques and tossing them in there later on.

Thanks for the tip on the Zephyr Knockback, did not know about that set. It is safe to assume that will work in powers even when the power isn't toggled on? (say like.. Super Jump?) My other Brute has his -KB IO's in CJ and Temp Protection.

Those that have responded have given me some good ideas and I'm working on things from there. This being an old brute... he missed out of merits. That's gonna mean alot of farming.. merit and/or ticket wise.

Thanks

What I usually do is I keep Advanced Totals up. If you look at it with 1 Health in there the time it takes to go from 0 to 100% health is 120 seconds. If you 3 slot it with Health it'll still take 120 seconds to go from 0 to 100. Just mouse over the Regeneration bar.

With a WP that depends on +Regen, or a toon with a lot of +Regen bonusses it might be worth 3 slotting. People usually use it for the Numina and Miracle Uniques but you don't need it with this guy since you have Powersink.

Regarding the blessing of the Zephyr, yes it'll work in any travel power even when it's not toggled on (SS, CJ, SJ, Hover, Fly) but won't work in sprint or swift.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing, just run task forces with him. You don't have to farm them but if you're active again and you have a toon you like playing, run task forces. You'll load up on merits pretty quick.

200 merits from task forces will get you a LOTG Unique. It's easier than it sounds.

Sadly.. I've seen 1 advertised TF on my server since coming back. I almost wish I stayed on Virtue back at release.. almost..
