Help with a Brute?!?!
[ QUOTE ]
post your new fiery melee build
[/ QUOTE ]
Haha there's no build yet. I'll get to it soon enough I'm sure.
Remember that Brutes don't have access to CP, so if you're aiming for an AV soloer (with the same limitations of no insps, etc), then your end management will have to be really tight.
If you're just going for fun, not so much.

Yes, definitely looking to solo a few AVs. Now, endurance will be a bigger factor to be sure. I don't, however mind having to retreat occasionally to recover. I know that flies in the face of most current AV soloing logic but as long as it isn't excessive and I'm still moving forward pretty rapidly I'm fine with it. Foregoing Hasten will stretch endurance out considerably, as I can atest with Excelerate. Still going to keep a very close eye on it though.
Here's a very fast and dirty swap of powers with what I was considering when I was EM. I'm still looking at all the numbers and attack chains etc so there could be problems with the build to overcome that I don't see but it looks pretty promising at the moment.
Point out any concerns if you see them please.

Is that right?
That can't be right.

Jeez, here I am posting three times in a row about this. I really am sorry. I'm in the shower. I swear.
My understanding was that attacks that build fury need to be less than two seconds cast time. I've not looked into the numbers at all. I might even be remembering that incorrectly but if it's right...
All three of those attacks are less than two seconds cast time even factoring in Arcanatime right? So I'd be building Fury nonstop?
This really can't be right but please break it to me gently if you see what I'm doing wrong here.
Fury manages itself in a long AV fight simply by having the enemy constantly attacking you, so you can write that off as a non-issue

is it?
how long does incinerate take to finish all 10 ticks vs. the 5 ticks of gfs?
what happens if you refresh incinerate before the ticks have finished ticking? second set of ticks or do they overwrite? if they overwrite, that's a net loss of dmg per end used
edit: cod says 4.6 seconds for incinerates full ticks. so long as your recharge doesnt go below that IF the dot overwrites instead of adding a second ticking dot should be good i would think. this is of course assuming you are hitting incinerate as soon as it's recharged.
Both Incinerate and Cremate have higher DPS than GFS and also don't have that annoying lethal portion. Skipping GFS is very much viable
While all fire attacks are reasonably fast, none of them is lightning fast either. The average attack speed is fairly even with most sets and they have limited options for alternating attack chains (one for building fury and one once it's built up). It's definetly good at building fury (my only level 50 villain is Fiery/WP).
Endurance shouldn't be that much of a problem if you slot for it, FM has really good DPE. Running away from an AV to recover isn't something I'd advise for a Brute, while it would work well for a Scrapper the Fury loss would really hurt the Brute.

Yes, running isn't a good choice for Brutes very true. The good news is that the attack chain proposed in the last build I posted (Inc>Cr>FS) costs 15.11 endurance to run. It's Arcanatime to cast appears to be 5.148 seconds.
15.11/5.148= a loss of 2.935blahblahblah. We'll call it 2.94. Net endurance recovery with all toggles running is 2.89 for a loss of .05 endurance per second.
I'm ok with that.
Now I guess the question is does it do enough damage? Jupiter raises some points but I think they were addressed? I don't know. I would bet that the damage ticks get overwritten. Maybe they stack though? Does anyone know the answer there?
*edit* I just saw the last part of your post Jupiter. Looks like it's ok?
Gah! So I looked again and my recharge rate on Incinerate is down to 3.25 which is where it needs to be to make the chain gapless. Sooo we're back to the question of whether it overwrites or not.
Anyone know?

DoTs stack for Fire Melee as a Tank, there is no reason it shouldn't work that way for Brutes.
Btw, you can tell if something will / won't stack by checking CoD and checking for a "Effect does not stack from same caster" flag. If it doesn't have that, then you're good to go.
Well, Fire Sword and Cremate do less DPA than Gfs. Inc>Cr>Fs will also require +204% rech in Incinerate, that's 70% more recharge compared to the Gfs>Inc>Cr>Fs chain. Getting ~+135% rech is much easier and leaves room for lots of impervium armor and gift of the ancient sets, to help with end recovery.
Of course, you'd lose Breath of Fire then...
I'm almost sure the damage ticks stack, although I haven't enough recharge to check it... Damage ticks stack on any DoT power I've seen, I see no reason for it not to stack. As for DPS, it's well over 200 and, being fire damage, it's hardly resisted. You'll be fine.
As you're going to use each attack as much, I'd put the Hecatomb proc in Incinerate (you can always use more toxic RES on CoV, there's tons of toxic damage by level 40+) and a perfect zinger psi proc in Fire Sword - I don't know if that's better than the ToD proc (negative being less resisted than psi ?), but come on, psi on a melee character !
I'm not a numbers person, I'm a brute. I happened to see the word brute over the scrapper forum in the main page and promptly paid a visit.
There is a reason why Super Strength is so popular for brutes - Foot Stomp and Rage. The rest of the attacks are single-target attacks and with rage stacking, you will probably get some very impressive numbers. For me, all I know is I smash stuff and it doesn't last long in trying to smash me back.
I do not recommend Energy Melee. It is a slow set, with two (or three?) attacks animating over three seconds. When you are dependent upon quick attacks to build fury, those slow, hard hitting attacks are...infuriating. You have to consider the animation times as well when playing a brute.
I do not recommend electric melee for single target damage. Although electric/shield is quickly becoming the FoTM, they forget both Shield Charge and Lightning Rod are under the 400% dmg pet rule, so they quickly hit the damage cap, and there are other sets that still have a LOT more damage to benefit from.
Fire Melee is very respectable. Decent attack times, options to pick fire only attacks that aren't always heavily resisted. and well..it's FIRE. Brute SMASH and BURN? Sure sounds like fun to me. There are a lot of people that also like Fire Sword Circle for its AoE.
edit: I forgot to mention Dark, as you had mentioned you might not want to roll another Dark/SR. Dark/SR is good on a brute. Fast attacks, good recharge, soft-cap defense, a heal, and endurance recovery. It's still a very good choice for soloing AVs.
War Mace is probably slightly better than War Axe now that clobber got buffed. Decent Set.
Stone Melee is very end heavy, but hits very hard. I don't have much experience with this set. All I know is you swing a poo-stick.
Willpower is the general pairing with Super Strength and does quite well. If you have the cash, I'd also consider Shield with Super Strength. You have to figure out how you'll deal with healing (aid self maybe) and need to watch against defense debuffing, but against all odds just gives you that much more +DMG. I posted a SS/shield build below.
One more thing: People talk about a full fury bar. I usually run at around 80% fury, so don't just do your calculations at 100% fury, because it is very hard to maintain that.
This build assumes the 3% pvp def IO (placed in deflection) and is nowhere near cheap. It is soft-capped for Melee and Ranged defense, and has aid-self and regen bonuses to possibly solo AVs without inspirations. You could sacrifice +HP/Regen bonuses in your LOTGs for hami def/ends which would help.

Incinerate and Cremate both have static DPA, since their dot is always applied. (Well, Incinerate is just a dot, but you know what I mean.)
(Also, this assumes that the dots are an 80% chance for the whole stack, not 80% chance per tick.)
[edit: Yes, this counts server ticks.]
[edit: Those are Brute numbers -they'd be completely different on a Scrapper.]

I've been meaning to check my logs on this and keep forgetting. However, when I've been watching, I have yet to see a partial DoT. It always seems to be all or nothing. I'd promise to check logs tonight, but I plan to be on test for the new TF/SF and dom changes.
EDIT: Dom changes not in with today's test build as per Castle.
Be well, people of CoH.
I would kill to get an electric melee/ shield defense anything blue side.

I like SS/WP. My highest level character is my SS/WP Brute who I want to bring Hero Side (Love Brutes, hate villain side missions)
As I always say about SS - "Screw the Crash I am in it for the SMASH!" (In reference to the Rage Crash)
Thank you everyone for all the /assist! I'm set on Firey/SR now. It jives really well with my concept and looks to be pretty damn powerful too. You guys really gave me some great advice here.
Thanks again.

they should make scrappers fight longbow nullifiers and longbow spec-ops
arachnos npc's are cake compared to longbow imo
Unless you want swords, I'd go with Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch. About 7% lower DPS than the Incinerate -> Cremate -> GFS -> FS chain, but it takes one less attack, and uses 11% less endurance. It's what I would probably use if I were making a Fire scrapper. And for a brute, it's even better, because Scorch is your fastest attack, and Brutes can't stop for endurance.
You're looking for +145% recharge in Incinerate, or 4.09 seconds.

Hi Werner!
I think I'm going with this. Still not positive but it looks like it will run Inc>Cr>FS with only a .05 loss of endurance/sec total which is close enough to forever to be good with me.
Plus I get two AoEs!
How does the overall DPS stack up in that single target chain compared to the one you suggested? I know the build is crazy expensive but I got time.
