Inv/SS really any good?

I'd love to make a superwoman like character but I hear that this build isn't any good. I'm going to be solo most of the time so I want the best defense I can get, with an okay ammout of damage.

Whoever told you Inv/SS isn't any good was lying out their teeth to you. Inv/SS was my first character, my first 50, has done pretty much damn near everything you can do in this game, and is still by far and away my favorite toon to play. If you need any help putting together a build you like, let me know. I'll be glad to chip my $.02 in for you.

Inv/SS is a great combo for tough defense without sacrificing offense. Slot your attacks and you'll solo fine.

This. Inv/SS is one of the best combos for both damage output and mitigation. Not to mention how iconic the combination is. I always feel a little more super while playing one of my Inv/SS tanks.

Inv/SS is a great combo...but it can be very painful to start.

Invulnerability doesn't really become a comprehensive defense until you get Invinciblity... at level 18. Before that point, you are going to feel every weak point in your armor.

Super Strength doesn't have much to recommend it (Damage wise, at least) until you get KO Blow. Even then, it doesn't really pick up until level 28, and Rage. And, of course, you have to wait until 38 to get Foot Stomp - one of the best PBAoE attacks in the game, and the only AoE in the set.

As a suggestion - Pick up Air Superiority! Even if you aren't taking Flight, get Air Superiority. In the early game, being able to juggle an opponent nearly indefinitely will provide you that little extra bit of survivability to reach the early 20s. AS and Haymaker combined will keep your target on his back for the majority of the fight.

Once you've got Invincibility, Stamina, and KO Blow, you're career as a Inv/SS Tank really takes off. And you will dominate everything in your path... until you get to the late 30s, and start encountering things that can exploit your remaining holes. (Try to get Resist Energies, at least, before you hit 40...)

A poorly slotted, indifferently-played Inv/SS tank will be quite successful and defeat most content. A well-planned and well-played one is one of the strongest characters in this game.

Inv/SS stinks.

Statesman quit the game over it.

Inv/SS is amazing.

Inv/SS is the prototypical Tanker. And one of the most well-rounded. No, the most well-rounded. Just plain solid all-around.

I'm currently working on my fourth Inv/SS and yes, it is as good as those praising it say. The build is a late game bloomer, but like most everything else, if you get it over the 1-20 it becomes a lot easier (and funner) to use. For me, it's the only tank combo I have really loved (playing my fourth) and, while it may not be the best, with Stone/ and Willpower/ being more defensive options, consider this: Inv/ has been nerfed two times and it is somewhere close to the third best defense, mostly because it is very well rounded. Just don't get thinking you can stop psychics.

I agree with everyone here who believes that Inv/SS is a great combo. There's NOTHING in the game the combo can't handle without minimal use of insps, and as always, a well planned/slotted build with and even without IO sets.

There's also versatility with the build, you can make a very damaging, yet uncapped RES tanker that you can supplement easily with insp, or you can make a near god-like maxed RES, soft-capped DEF build that can stand up to Recluse on the STF nearly as good as a Stoner can.

It's a win-win combo.

It's an effective combination, but it's also fairly heavy on the endurance bar. As long as you slot your attacks and toggles properly for endurance reduction and take Stamina (obviously) you should be fine. You might have trouble before you hit 20 though.

As far as soloing goes, I solo a great deal with my Inv/SS Tanker and he does fine. The only things that give me trouble are multiple higher level AE custom bosses (the exact number depends on the boss), more than 7 Cimerorans (with at least one Boss), and endurance management in very long fights. Those problems can be managed with inspirations, paying more attention than I do, and/or with more IO sets (an aspect in which I am lacking). Your normal solo missions should be more than manageable.
