Which iconic heroes/villains can i use

I'm trying to put signature heroes/vills in a story but for the life of me can't find them under the critter options.

I've bought all the unlockable stuff from the AE vendor, i must just be missing a tag

nvm, found it....apparently i can't use The Dark Watcher as an ally

I think that's because he is only a contact and not a combatant in regular PvE.

I'd recommend creating your own character for him. What powersets do you think he would possess? I'm thinking Dark Blast plus some kind of debuff set, but as far as I know it's never said in canon what his abilities are, so that's just a guess.

What you need to do is work up a credible facsimile of Dark Watcher as a new custom character. Then give him powersets that you think fit.

Some in-game characters are fairly easy to duplicate. I made a spot-on Doc Delilah, and Sister Psyche is not difficult. Others you can do sort-of, like Ms. Liberty. Statesman can only be approximated, and Lord Recluse is impossible. These clones can be used if you don't want to invoke level limits from the actual characters.

I actually had cause to re-create Dark Watcher as a custom character for one of my stories, so if you want I can share the costume.

You can't duplicate him exactly, as far as I can tell, because his belt and hat are unique, and you can't turn up the collars on trench coats. I got pretty dang close, though.

From the Paragon Wiki article I gather DW is actually Illusion/FF (or possibly Mind/FF), which struck me as strange. Not only does his name include "dark" but the IO set named after him is an accuracy debuff set, so I was really expecting him to be dark-something or other. *shrug* I guess Lady Gray, who is demonstrably dark, got a defense debuff set, so maybe it's all arbitrary anyway.

I tried to do that once but gave it up as I had no idea what powers Hard Case would have and didn't want to have the possible annoyance of then being proven totally wrong someday if he does get made into a combatant. I was guessing Dark Scrapper but cut him out of the arc as while it was a fun idea to beat info out of him for the story it didn't really add anything to the plot to justify it.

But if that ever happens couldn't you just swap out the combatant for your custom? It's not like you can't edit an arc after you put it up.

Well considering the unlikelyhood of ever getting a Dev Choice, I guess you're right. Anyways, he didn't add anything to the story so it wasn't worth spending time on.
