melee fortunata
I think you have forgotten the fact that certain aoe attacks work just fine in melee, such as psi nado.
a melee fort works perfectly fine, but I don't think you should be cutting off your feet to spite your face.
I'd suggest dropping aura of confusion for standard confuse. As a controllery toon with defense, you should only need it on occasion, and the quicker recharge will allow you to confuse elite bosses and AV's outside the PToD.
I went for more surgical control with my melee fortunata. With your AoE defense buffs, you help the team stay upright, and you can take powers like confuse, dominate, and scramble thoughts to disable annoying targets before they become a problem (sappers, nulifiers; confusing nulifiers is especially fun).
And psi nado rocks.
for the confuse yeah i can't decide myself...
In fact the cast time of the single version make me freighten ...
For psy tornado, yup could replace spin.
Bab mentioned recently that Confuse would have its activation/animation trimmed to 2.0 seconds.
While I'm here, a related question:
Does Aura of Confusion drop you out of Hidden status?

I am pretty sure it does. I haven't tried but I've tried some aoe toggles with my stalker and they reveal me (Oppressive Gloom, Fear toggle, and EA's repel toggle)
I can't see why aoe confuse won't reveal you. And also, you have to get close to use aoe confuse since it's pbaoe and you will be seen?
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Aura of Confusion, like ALMOST all confuse powers, does not reveal you, but as the poster above mentions, you do have to get close to use it. If you want to use it while remaining hidden I suggest putting a stealth IO in sprint and toggling both sprint and mask presence on and then going in and using aura of confusion.
AoC with the contagious confusion purple proc (which is relatively cheap) has a decent chance of one shot confusing boss types, and even a small chance of cofusing EBs on one application, if you do it in a nice bunched up group of baddies.

So are you saying that both Mask Presence and the stealth IO don't suppress? What I really want to find out is whether or not mobs have a chance to react in the split second between when AoC starts activating and when AoC's effects hit.
And yes, I have a full set of purple ready to pop in this puppy if I ever get around to respec >.>
5% ranged def bonus on top of all the common purple bonus is just too good to pass up on.

Interesting. Is it because Confuse causes no aggro? I actually never really test to see if aoe confuse causes aggro or not because as soon as I go in, I get seen. My Fortunata doesn't use stealth.
I think if you super speed inside and use aoe confuse, you should be able to do it before they see you.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Mask presence and the stealth IO will not suppress when you activate AoC. It's because it's a confuse effect. As far as I know, seeds of confusion (the plant confusion cone) acts like any other attack and does suppress stealth, but every other confuse power does not.
So mobs will not have a chance to react in that split second if you are stealthed enough that they don't notice you when you get that close. They also will not attack you if you move away after using AoC, not even the ones that were close but not affected by the power. You can wander in, use AoC, then use single target confuse on bosses and elite bosses who might not have been confused, then walk away and watch them slaughter each other for the next 30 seconds or so at zero risk to yourself.
Alternatively, you could herd up a huge bunch of mobs into a tight area using regular attacks, hit AoC there with contagious confusion, so most of them are attacking each other, if not all, then hit psychic wail to kill a bunch of them while the rest are STILL attacking each other or stunned.
It all depends on what you enjoy.
Superspeed and mask presence, or superspeed and a stealth IO, or mask presence and a stealth IO, or all three together, are all good enough combos that you can walk right up to most mobs (snipers and rikti drones excepted) and they won't notice you. Unfortunately any one of those will not be sufficient. You c an get closer with just superspeed, but to use AoC effectively in the middle of a tight group of them superspeed will not be sufficient to let you stand unnoticed. It won't suppress, but if you just walked in and didn't use any powers at all you would still be seen. Besides, I noticed the original poster did not list superspeed in his build, so I did not suggest it, but everyone as sprint, and he had not slotted it, so I figured a stealth IO there. was a reasonable suggestion.

You can do so much with Fortunata. Fort is just so good.
My first Fort is mostly IOed with expensive sets and her attack chain is: Dominate, Gloom, Subdue and TK blast. I have double assaults. This is a good damage, VERY SAFE build. I have two aoe too and mini-nuke.
I thought about a melee-hybrid. I'll take Dominate (this power is just too good to skip) and Strike, Swipe and Lunge for claw. And I think I'll try Follow Up this time. The two aoe are Spin and Psi Tornado since I am going to get close anyway. I'll take two Assault and two Maneuver. :P
Basically, my little hybrid should perform better than all my Dominators because while my control is not as good as Dom, I have so much other tools to rely on. I am trying to reduce weapon draw.
But you can go with even more hybrid-melee with more control powers or replacing Swipe with Subdue. Subdue's dmg is quite high and it's all psi dmg.
You don't want to skip Foresight, Mind Link, Maneuver. If you are taking Mask, then take Aim. If you don't plan on having stealth, then I would try Follow Up.
I really don't think you can do something wrong with Fortunata.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

You can if you want to. I always forget about this. But I probably will just go with one and take one extra attack/control. There are so many good powers to pick from.

nado is not worth ditching spin for.
hmm yes i try to make the build now with :
spin
psy tornado
the 2 confuse
poison dart, strike, lundge, dominate
the nuke
Medecine pool.
I'm near to find the good combination, softcapping melee/ranged yet but i got a hole in aoe.
I'll post an update when i got it done.
This the build I used, I found it to be quite fun, I may lack AOE output per say, but I shred through stuff very fast.

I delete more 50s, then you'll ever have.
http://www.pandora.com/people/jjdemon
hello,
I'm going soon to make a fortunata.
I would like to make her melee till i don't really like ranged toon.
My goal for the build is first to put some +deff, then regen and if i got enough time / money i'll add the lotg.
Though i think i'll never put the lotg + rech.
Anyway i never builded a fortunata, so any tips are welcome for the slot or the power.
I just maked this build after reading forums, and with my experience of scrapper / troller.
Though i really wanted to take subdue (root is handy) but i don't find slot / place to take it.
To summ up :
45% def melee / ranged
40% aoe.
280% regen.
For the global rech it's 70% well like if hasten was up.
But i think i'll have only 20-30% global.
Anyway the build won't change much without the lotg +rech, till 2 lotg give 10% regen.
Any comment appreciate
