Help with shopping for a new rig, please!

My current machine is gasping, so I'm looking for a new one. I have never built one from scratch, so I'd rather have one pre-built.

In the past I went with Alienware, and loved it, but that was pre-Dell. Cyberpowerpc runs lots of adds, but I have heard horror stories about their service.

Basically, what components should I be looking for, and where should I be shopping?

I'm am hoping to be spending $600-$900 for the box ( I have all the other stuff.)

try this site, it is my little brothers they can build anything alienware can but cheaper. I got 2 rigs from them almost a year ago no problems yet. If you want something custom contact them though the site's "contact me"

I'm not pushing you to build one, but for those of us who do build there was a time when we had never built one either. It's not difficult, and you can save a fair amount.

I believe Father Xmas has several builds at differing $ amounts in his sig.

Do you need a new monitor as well?

The Dell Studio desktops start out around $430, but once you put a decent video card in (9800GT), more memory (4GB), and upgrade the processor (C2D 2.93Ghz), you're looking at about $780 before shipping/tax.

It's not the most powerful system extant, but compared to what you have now, it should scream for CoX.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.
