Issue 16 Attack of the AE Regulators
[ QUOTE ]
Greetings all,
AE certainly has changed the way people play the game. I can't decide yet if it is for the better or worse, but as far as player participation goes, its a huge success. Given the fact that so many players are off living in their fantasy land what if there were raids added to the game designed to shut down AE for a short time.
On the hero side it could be swarms of PPD who are concerned that AE is addictive and subverting heroes from fighting crime. One the villian side, it would be Lord Recluse who believes that AE undermines the rise of the fittest because it allows sickly villians to continue their lives without any real challanges. Would also explain why he refuses to allow it to open in GV.

Would you have Longbow attacking the heroes?
Certainly, having Arachnos attacking villians happens all the time, but Longbow attacking the Heroes might not make as much sense.
Also, keep in mind that not all players enjoy things like zone events hindering them from completing the hunt missions given mid-arc.
Having legitamate play choices taken away from them annoys players.
Why does Recluse not allow the AE in Grandville? Because GV is the seat of his power and not an entertainment hub. That's what St. Martial is for.
He doesn't want it sucking up power that could be running the Web. ((Lag.))
I wouldn't suggest this as a zone event, only an event within the AE building. On the hero side it would be something similar to a police raid, there might not be any charges filed, but it disrupts business. Honestly, I don't care. Just an idea to do something that changes AE from its currently lvlfiesta.

We would be much better served by fixing spawns whose "risk vs. reward" ratios are greatly skewed, than to do something that would punish legitimate users as well.

I'm a fox, and I approve this message.

This would without a doubt be the most poorly received event ever. Inside the building itself? You mean where people creating arcs are unable to see what's going on around them? Yeah, those people would love to be ambushed.
Might as well add an ambush inside the tailor/facemaker as well. And don't forget to remove the kill zones at the Auction houses.
As an even worse option, you could have them "cut the power" to that paticular AE building just before attacking. That would dump people out of the builder so they could defend themselves when the ambushes came. Of course they'll probably not be saved to that point so you know you'll have wasted someone's time and effort and they won't be happy. Even an auto save isn't going to completely solve that problem.

This line combined with the original idea plus my need for sleep gave me a random idea that's amusing to at least me in my sleep deprived state. Let's do this invasion with the power cut, but a little different. Let's compress a Rikti invasion into the AE building and scale everything accordingly. The power goes out and the windows disappear, followed by miniature Rikti dropships flying in and dropping tiny bombs on people using the terminals. Then cue mini-Rikti teleporting in to attack everyone! Since they're all tiny though, they'll have to be proportionally weak as well. At the size I'm imagining (few inches tall), they might not even be able to kill a level 1 Blaster, but it'd be hilarious to watch.
Ok, must go get sleep so I can see if this is as funny as it is now in a few hours.

I'm 100% /signed to this idea. Being threatened by smurf sized Rikti would be awesome.
