Have you tried <Verify files>?
If no errors, then you can try and delete 'coh.checksum' in the CoH directory and then verify files.

Blue loading bar? So, when you start the updater, it goes through the "Loading" stage but then it blows up when it starts to apply the update? Hmmm.

Try checking the folder the game is in. Right click on it, select properties, and make sure 'read only' is turned off. If you copied the game directly from a DVD, it may have set everything to read-only, which makes it impossible to update.
