Hello, I am Doctor Paradox. you may recognize me from such dastardly schemes as "The Day of the Plastic-Ray," "Countdown to Apocalypse," or "The Seeds of Yggdrasil."

No?

Fine. on to business.
A person by the name of Joshdex (or Sebastian Dash) and I have been in correspondence over something called Rikti War III, an event taking place roughly 20 years in the future, where there is yet another Rikti War. this will be multiple continuities revolving around one central storyline that will rock the planet to it's core.
what storyline, you ask?

that's where you come in.

you see, Sebastian and I can't seem to agree on what the premise shall be. here's an excerpt from the official message boards that we set up (at the moment, Me and Seb.) at http://z11.invisionfree.com/AiL/inde...c=198&st=0

Me:
[bold] nteresting, Guest. if it were a Hero responsible, and if they wanted revenge on the other heroes to the point of figurative genocide, who would it be? who has such resentment for his or her former compatriots? I hear Dark watcher, a hero who even now hold a sizable Rikti history was lost and forgotten by the original Freedom Phalanx in some Novel that I can't find. could he be the mastermind behind the plot? and does he acknowledge that such a course is in the spirit of revenge, or would he claim to be doing it "for the Good of Mankind" in a Lex Luthor kind of way ( Read "Justice" and you'll see what I mean). also, does Vanguard exist in this future, or could it have been shattered in the buildup to the war by an unknown force (an inside job, perhaps? a little dynamite can go a long way underground, and the loss of Lady Grey could sow quite a lot of confusion) that gets revealed as the story goes on? if so, and if the Dark Watcher is to Blame, could he be the head of a skeleton Group that he later betrays when it has fulfilled its usefullness? it could be called "Rearguard" or somesuch . [/bold]

Seb:

[bold]Is it possible we could sidestep the issues of the original war as much as possible, and focus on the new war, though? Leave the past shrouded in mystery, as it were?

Just a thought.. [/bold]

as yet we have been unable to even find the basis for WHY they invaded. please help, either here or at the message board above.
thank you.

Why not just build off what is already there? I assume you've actually played through the Vanguard arcs, so you know some of the existing rikti story.

It doesn't seem at all unlikely that Nemesis would continue his attempts at virtual godhood despite having been thwarted by heroes this time. Even if the conflict between the rikti and earth were settled once the war was found to have been orchestrated for a separate, sinister purpose, the fact remains that a very real threat to the entire rikti race exists in the form of one or more beings originating from our dimension's earth.

If Nemesis made further attempts, failed, but remained at large on present earth, it would give compelling reason, eventually, for the rikti to destroy this dimension's earth for no reason other than to permanently stop the danger it represents to them.

It also gives room for decent storytelling, as the attempted genocide can be seen not as a simple act of evil, but as an act of desparation by a race that can find no other solution to the greatest danger it has ever encountered.

This.

And it seems to me like you're just trying to get people to brainstorm ideas for you. I mean, if you can't come up with ideas on your own...

FOR THE LOVE OF AJAX will you stop spaming other threads.

Sebastian Dash and I have been back and forth-ing for weeks now on the story behind the Maxi-event we are trying to put together with a large number of people, the Third Rikti War, but even though I keep suggesting things, he keeps shooting them down.
Why that Bad Person!
WE NEED FRESH VOICES! PLEASE< EVEN IF YOU DON"T ACTUALLY RESPOND, TAKE A LOOK IN CASE YOU DO HAVE AN IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I have a idea, stop spaming.

I am terribly sorry about that. I HAVE been coming up with Ideas, but I enjoy a collaborative effort on stories to ensure that I'm not just writing complete trash, and it seems that everyone has great Ideas on these forums. I'd rather that every party involved have an equal voice in the story, so the continuity becomes richer. I apologize for the spamming from the bottom of my heart, but I hope that it will lead to a good story.

as to the suggestions of Voodoo...
Thanks, but I'm afraid that it has been requested by Sebastian that we leave out events of the previous wars, for the most part, to prevent spoilers.

hmmmmm... nobody? here's an Idea: the Lost Start lhe war, thinking that there is still a war but that they are out of contact.

I think it's mostly that you're pushing too hard with this. Just start creating and see what people think; things will melt even over time.

Personally, I find the idea of another Rikti War set in the time you describe to be pretty far-fetched, especially if it's supposed to be stand-alone and not incorporate anything fom the previous ones. See, I also liked the idea of escalation, but I think present day is a much more appropriate setting, and thus chose it for my Rikti War arc, which gives me a ton of material to work with. YMMV, of course.

well, here are the ideas going on around so far for the chronology. the basis is that the Lost have started the war, with help fro mthe war supporting Rikti, who are also trying to seize control of their homeworld (we need a Rikti Homeworld Map.)

1. (Lost) Rikti Attack portal Corp, possible Praetorian crossover, in order to make contact with the homeworld. War begins an Vanguard swiftly takes charge.

2. general Wartime strikes begin, hints of a deeper mystery run through the Arcs, but are unsubstantiated as yet. strikes against Lost Rikti and regular Rikti are made, and there can be any number of themes for both. Regular: Evacuation, defending, or finding a defensive weapon are examples (Seb, you know the Arc I told you about, this would be the time for this)

3. Dark Watcher notices inconsitencies and sends Heroes to search for the truth. this can be over several arcs, with info passed from one story to the next via-contact. the truth about the enemies being fought is uncovered, and you find that it is the Lost who started the War

4. before you can pass on the Info, you stop the destruction of the Embassy and are forced to go underground before you reveal the truth and clear your names. a parallel story can be going on here where you are trying to capture the Renegades, but end up fighting with them when defending the base. this is a major turning point in the War, as from this point on it is known who you are fighting.

5. the Military and Vanguard turn their efforts towards finding the Lost Rikti, but the extra effort comes too late to stop a fresh wave of troops. word comes from the peaceful Rikti that the warlike Rikti (WR from now on) are causing destruction on the R homeworld in order to seize power.

we were also thinking that Gaussian of the Vanguard is behind the Lost attacking in the first place. after the truth about the Lost is found, massive troop carriers arrive, and the Humans are forced into the defensive, basically put under seige until the heroes foil the final plan of using a psychic bomb to whipe out all humans.

why does everything that I try to put together just fall flat? I'm just trying to put something together between some players, and everyone just ignores it. I'm sorry about the spamming, but it was months ago! I intend to make a massive story, and I was just hoping to gain some rich creativity from this community.

I'm sure people are quite interested in playing what it is you plan to make, but to write it... Why not just write it ourselves and take the credit?

Creation is intensly personal for some, and collaborative for others. Unfortunately it would seem the majority of players are in the former camp.

My advice: keep it simple.

thank you for taking the time to reply. thank you from the BOTTOM of my heart. you make a good point. if people WANT to help, they'll have this place, and if not, Sebastian and I can work something out. the biggest thing about this was that it would take more than 3 story arcs to complete, but I suppose with the release of purchasable slots, that's obsolete.
