everythings on hold while im learning zbrush and any other type of texture painting program.. HOWEVER. im having a problem with zbrush not making a texture I can use for editing in photoshop..

any zbrush gurus have any simple tips on this?..

btw.. ive also tryed bodypaint and 3d coat software and found them to be worthless and not very user friendly... the only programs ive found that are good for 3d texturing are.. zbrush, deep paint 3d and tatoo... so far zbrush is the best.. if not the most user unfriendly..

Zbrush's native uv texturing is the system that causes the least distortion along uv seams, but to do so it breaks the surface into rectangular tiles that you can't really edit in photoshop.

I would recommend creating your uvs in another 3d package then bringing the base mesh into Zbrush. Or use the ZApplink plugin to apply photoshop painting to the ZBrush texture.

...what frozen said.

If you let ZBrush lay out the UV's it's not going to be anything you can edit later in Photoshop. But using a odd little process you can either import the UV's (that you laid out in another program), or export the ZBrush low sub div model, import into 3d Studio or Maya..etc, lay out the UV's there...they finally import back into ZBrush.

It's not exactly a straight forward process, but it's not too bad once you've gotten the hang of it.

Other painting programs you might want to try are Body Paint 3d...or even Photoshop CS4 (if you're lucky enough to have access to that).

As far as programs just for laying out UV's...I'd suggest taking a look at "Roadkill". It's pretty awesome.

Thanks,
Todd
